BT 3C8 035 730 C + Columbus in a Yeti

Featured Replies

OK I'm picking up a 3C8 035 730 C Bluetooth module + wiring & mic this weekend. I'm going to fit it into a 2010 60 plate Yeti fitted with a Columbus unit. Anything specific I need to know about regards fitting or operation after it's fitted. I know I'll need to get the telephone function activated via VCDS.

Thanks.

Do you have Maxidot?

If possible it's easier to fit the unit behind the glovebox rather than under the seat.

Also what loom are you getting?

If you want voice control on the Columbus you may need to modify the loom.

Yes I do have MaxiDot. I'm using the loom that comes with the unit + mic 3B0 035 711 B

I'll take a look at the glovebox option

If the loom doesn't have a little loop back with pins to plug into the other connector on the back of the Columbus then you won't get voice control.

You may not be able to put it behind the glovebox if you have MDI.

Thanks Phil, my son has the unit and loom, it won't work with his red Maxidot, so I don't know about the loop. I don't have MDI so it may be a goer.

No voice control wouldn't be too much of a hardship.

Yeah that module will only work on cars with the white maxidot like yours.

Should be enough room to wedge it in there then.

Everything fitted all I get now is "no user connected" when pressing phone. IPhone set to discoverable and searching but nothing found, I guessing it's because the car needs coding for Bluetooth.

Just a thought remember that you need to look at the maxidot screen, not the phone when pairing. Is Bluetooth box ticked in set up, could be you just need coding if not.

No phone menu in Maxidot screen options.

And under set up for phone -

Setup > telephone options are

Update phone book

Delete call list

Speed dial

Restore factory settings only last one can be chosen.

You need it coding so it shows in maxidot. That's where you instigate the pairing.

Thanks Phil

As I suspected I'm on with it, contacted someone with VCDS to do it for me.

Once it is in the maxidot you need to ensure it is in "handsfree" mode not "premium" to pair to an iPhone.

OK BT unit fitted and working. My next question is -

If I fit an RSAP aerial such as this one will it allow me to read my text messages off an iPhone 4 on my MFD?

No. The iPhone doesn't support rSAP unfortunately.

Thanks Adam although it did pair whilst in "Premium" mode.

I don't know what the difference is between "Premium" & "Handsfree" it doesn't seem to change anything.

I've noticed to that when my phone is connected there is no text message alert on my phone, only a slight vibration that is hardly noticeable and not as strong as the normal vibrate alert! Thus making it easy to miss a text, not that a text should be read whilst driving you understand. Yet when connected to my old windscreen mounted handsfree BT unit I did get text alerts!!!!

Not having an iPhone its hard to comment. But if its connecting when in premium mode I suspect premium mode is effectively auto switching to the handsfree protocol in the background. Thats why it appears no different.

Handsfree mode doesnt take over the sim, and instead connects to the phone. Proper premium mode is rsap in which the car takes over the sim and becomes an 3m handset! This allows premium functionality such as text readout and wifi hotspot for other users in the car.

Thanks Adam yes it doesn't make a difference to the phone operation whichever mode it's in.

There's an option under "audio" to select either "in call" or "always" I don't know what this does either.
