Rust patch on boot mk2 Fab Estate

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Not sure if this is the right section or not. Basically, I've got a small rust patch on boot. Mk2 Fab estate vrs. Think previous owner may have keyed and scratched paint by accident and water has gotten in.

It's only a small patch but has worked itself inside now too. It's right at the bottom of boot. I'll try and get a picture up. Just wondering if anybody knows of any decent body shops in the midlands/staffs area. I've had one quote of 75 quid which doesn't seen too bad. Not sure if I am brave enough to attempt some DIY...thanks guys.

I'm sure I read something on here about a 10 year transferable warranty on the paint - take it to your skoda dealer.

There is a 3year Paint Warranty & a 12 Year Body Protection Warranty.

If there was Accidental Damage to the paint that then rusted that is not covered.

A common place to rust is where the Badge is replaced under warranty and a careless person removing the badge makes a small chip in the paint.

i have seen a few of those and touched them up.

The edge of the hatch might be accidental damage,

but unless you are touching up yourself after preparing and using some rust inhibitor just ask a Car Repairer what they think.

They might well tell you if they think it is a Paint Warranty Issue.

Thanks George. I did take it to a skoda dealers to have a look at a while back and the warranty guy took a look and said it looked like accidental damage so they wouldn't be able to do anything.

I have thought about trying to sort it myself but I'll be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm doing when it comes to rust work. Do I have to be a freedom member to post pictures? Maybe you could have a look and see what you think?

Cheers

Couple of pictures of rust spot. It's right at the bottom of the tailgate half way across. It's also worked it's way inside too :-(

Looks to me like the tailgate is touching the bumper cover.

If it is then the bumper may need to come off to find out why.

It could have had a small bump on the rear but if it is touching and you just paint it it will soon come back.

As you don't know what you are doing with paint take it to a bodyshop.
