Front Sensors

Featured Replies

Sorry if this been asked before, I did do a search but didn't find what I was looking for.

I have parking assistant on my new vRS, I have noticed over the last few days that the parking aid front sensors seem to be turn themselves off without me knowing.

Normally the light is on to show it is active, I have had it several times when I have been pulling into my parking space at work, or into my drive and the front sensors haven't bleeped or the car display doesn't appear on the Columbus, if I then press the parking aid button, I then get the bleeps and the yellow & red indicators appear on the screen.

Looking in the parking assistant section in the Car menu the sensors are set to automatic.

I haven't tried the parking assistance yet, so don't know whether this works.

Has anybody else had this issue?

The "automatic" bit comes into play when you select reverse gear.  If you just drive into a space forwards, then they won't come on unless you press the button.

Otherwise, how would the system know that you're not just turning a corner at a junction, or slowing for traffic, or any one of another million reasons why you wouldn't want the parking sensors to suddenly turn themselves on!

Not sure if the Octy is the same set up the same as a Golf but I have Park Assist and without PA selected my Front and Side sensors are active all the time below 5mph I believe - handy when driving into my garage or a parking space - but I do not have a permanent light to show they are active only the Nav screen display showing where the obstacle is and how close, and the rears only work when reverse is selected.

Should note have different beep noise for Front, Rear and Side sensors.

I don't have pa, but my front sensors come on automatically when I'm driving <5km/h.

I stand corrected then.  To the OP - drive slower  :D

PA and the graphic will turn on automatically when object is close enough.

Octavia5 is correct they are supposed to be on all the time at speeds below 10 mph, I can be at the traffic lights and a car pulls up alongside side me and the screen shows the car with yellow lines down it to show they are too Bl00dy close.

But the last couple of days I have been having to press the button to turn the sensors on, were as before they were always on, I haven't made any changes that would affect this, the only thing I have done is put the radio station logos on, I would be very surprised if this messed up the parking aid.

@golfish that is the problem it isn't.

Slow speed and in reverse, the Park sensors and the graphic turns on automatically.

I am talking about the front sensors not the rears, I don't have any problem with the rears.

Here is an example: I am pulling into my parking space at work, the front sensors come on to show me how close I am to the wall in front of me, I have had my car my car since the 9/06/2014 and they have been working correctly but the last few days this isn't happening, I am having to press the parking aid button for this happen, they aren't coming on automatically like they are supposed to, also bear in mind I am only pulling into the space at about 2mph so I am not going too quickly.

I can only assume that know one else is having the same problem, I will have to contact the dealer for assistance.

It is for all sensors including the front, activation automatically. Did you ordered only the front sensor option not the park assist?

When I ordered in December last year you could only order the intelligent parking assistant, you couldn't order the front sensors separately.

My rear sensors are working automatically as were the front sensors, it is only in the last few days were I am having to press the parking aid button to turn the sensors on, as I mentioned in my first post I haven't yet tried the parking assistant yet.

When I drove into my drive on Friday evening, the drivers side rear sensor bleeped and showed the red marker on the screen when I was close to the wall, but as I pulled in behind our other car on the drive, the fronts didn't bleep, nor did anything appear on the screen, I then pressed the parking aid button, it now showed the yellow indicator for the passenger side front sensor and I got the beep, I had already stopped when I pressed the parking aid button.

I don't understand why the fronts aren't coming on automatically like they are supposed it, yet the rears are.

Silly question but have you made sure they're clean? Also have you blasted them with a pressure washer as I was told they are quite sensitive and should avoid doing this.

Looking at the sensors they are clean, no they haven't been pressure washed, as per my previous replies the sensors do work, but I am having to press the button to turn them on when they should be automatic, this has only happened since either Wednesday or Thursday, I haven't been in the car since I came home Friday evening, so don't know whether they are now turning on automatically, I will find out tomorrow when I go to work, I suspect not.
