ASG reverse gear problem + noise from motor

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I have two problems and due to the inexperienced services in the City, I firstly want to ask you if anyone has/had the same problems. Otherwise, the service is trying everything and dismounting every pieces to find the problem, but without success. Because of this dismounting, the problem grows up like new noises from the car.

1- ASG reverse gear problem:

Sometimes the reverse gear is not working. The screen is showing me "R" but even if pump the gas pedal, the motor is not accelarating and car is not moving. (The most interesting thing is that the gas pedal is not reacting.) Even if I stop and start again the engine, reaverse gear is not reacting. Right after this, I change the gear to "D" and it works. If I drive a few cm forwards and try again the reverse gear, it is working. But if I change only to "D" and right after to "R", it is not working. Does anybody know how where exactly the problem is?

2- Noise from motor:

There is a noise like whistle coming from the motor (since 4-5 months). The noise is dissapearing by accelerating engine little bit (still stand or moving doesn't matter). There is no change by cold or warm motor. Has anybody experienced the same problem?

Thanks in advance...

Hi

Don't know about problem 1 as we have a manual ;)

Problem 2 however is reported on here and VW up! forums and we have had the same fault if I am correct. Lift the bonnet when whistling and listen down on the RHS of the engine. Chances are it will be coming from the water pump which the dealer should change under warranty.

Hope this helps.

Strange that you have the problem with your ASG.

I noted on here recently that some owners with manual gearboxes, have experienced problems with reverse selection, one owner has raised a case with Skoda UK as his  DEALER garage could find an issue with it.

Could there be a link with the box design or is this purely a coincidence?

With the asg reverse problem it's the way you select the gear is causing the problem, it doesn't like changing direction with out the brakes being on.

I think pushing the brake as you select it will solve the problem but I've not drive a asg for a while.

Thank you for all the answers. Regarding using brakes, I'm using brakes every time.

Thank you for the answer regarding the noise. I will drive to the garage (authorized service) and will tell them to focus on the water pump.

It is good to have an idea about the source of the noise. I'm just worried about they inexperince; for them this would be the first time of changing a water pump of a Citigo. :dull:

Regarding reverse gear problem of ASG; it seems that I'm the first which have such of a problem. In summary, I'm the guinea pig for the garage now.

I get the whistling noise too!

Been doing it for about a year now.

Do a google like

vw up! asg reverse problem

up! owners club asg problem

etc

You are not alone, and because 1 Dealership claim to have never heard of problems,

VWG Seat, Skoda & VW might well have.

(There are not that many Skoda Citigo ASG sold or first registered in the UK anyway.)

Owners and Customers need to be sure Faults & Possible faults are Logged with the Technical Department otherwise VWG tend to make out,

'Just one offs'.

Thank you for all the answers.

I want to inform you about the status of these issues.

Yesterday u was in the garage. I left the car there. They have inspected throughout the day and today i have called. In summary:

Problem on the water pump, it will changed.

ASG reverse problem is because of a part in the transmission, which name the guy on the phone don't knows. It will also changed.

I m sad that this happened but i hope that they can repair it without problem.
