VRS Finale

Featured Replies

The vRS is gone.

I need to explain the events that led up to this.We run two cars and I bought the vRS as an everyday vehicle being swayed by its performance,gearbox which could be relaxed but also manic,four doors and with the bonus of good economy.

The other car for the last 3 years has been a 350z which was getting used very little so this was sold and I replaced it with a Lexus IS 250 which provides wafting automatic luxury.It was then that both myself and the wife decided that we did not want TWO automatic cars so we decided to change the vRS for a sporty,manual hatch, two doors only needed.

So now we will use the Lexus for longer relaxed trips,mostly with four people carried, whereas the hot hatch will be used  more generally.I expect the Lexus will do 40% of the mileage.

So what did I get?I could have gone for a new or nearly new Fiesta ST but decided against it.I found one of the last Civic Type Rs registered in the UK (late 2011 with lsd) that had only done 1900 miles which for all intents and purposes is like a new vehicle.

I've had v-tec Hondas before so knew what to expect and I'm not disappointed.Compared to the vRS  it handles and steers better (but with a harder ride) and is more fun to me because you have to really drive it in the old fashioned way using the manual box.I love the dashboard and the seats and the whole feel of the car.

I'm not knocking the vRS which had a lot better mpg,cheaper road tax, four door practicality and better low end pull AND better overall acceleration,but the change made is the right one for me in my circumstances.

The vRS had done 19k miles and had always run perfectly and never went back to the dealers for any faults at all (although it did have the "left pull",very slight, which I would have tried to bottom had I kept it).It had a consistent and acceptable oil thirst of about 1litre per 2500 miles with its CTHE engine.Anyone who gets it will get a good car at a bargain price because I'm the silly one who's taken the big depreciation hit.

So overall the vRS experience was good and I'm not going to be knocking it on here in future in any way but I like the Civic more,but that is entirely personal and if this starts a Skoda v Civic spat I won't be taking part in it .Despite being in theory competing hot hatches they are chalk and cheese so choice is down to personal preference,you cannot say one is "better" than the other.

I like the civic type R, awesome sound track! I think that the new one could well be the way I go in 3 years when it comes to crunch time on the vrs, i loved my mk1 and now i have a mk2 i am overall a bit disappointed in it to be honest and not much else in vag group that apples so think next car i will try something other than vag group cars.

Enjoy the V-Tec!!!!

As far as I know the new Civic type R is out next year but will have nearly 300 hp and cost over £30k,so a class up really and sadly out of my price range!

@XK140, I am glad you liked your time with vRS and looking forward to reading your notes on long term experience with CTR.

350Z, mmmm

As for the new one, it would be insane to pay £30k for it - waaay better cars available for the money! Add another £10k and you have low mileage Nissan GT-R!!!

@wrightcnc2009

I am curious as to what disappointed you with MK2 vRS - not looking for a fight here :D
