what to look for when buying '09' 1.9tdi estate

Featured Replies

hi all

as title really,  been searching for a replacement for my '57' 1.9 tdi pd 3 fabia hatch, no luck in finding a suitable fabia estate, unfortunately my daily/ normal weekly trips mean I'm very reluctant to venture into PDF territory, seen an Octavia estate which seems to fill my requirements, am I correct in assuming it would ( like the Fabia ) have required a cam belt @ 4 years ? any other points to look out for ?

any help would be welcomed thanks in advance

regards Dave

Yes its 4 years or 60k miles for the cambelt.

Just the usual to check.

Make sure the engine revs right up without loads of black smoke under load.

Listen for any loud whistles from turbo and also for any rattles from the DMF.

Just make sure its got full service history as that's very important on the PD engines.

Hi Phil-E

Had an email today from the selling salesperson, including the 'service schedule' as per the car's service book ( 2009 '09' 1.9tdi ) which states inspect v-belt at 60km and replace at 150km ( which is 93k miles ) now like you have stated I was of the opinion it was every 4 years OR 80k miles which ever came 1st, unfortunately the car isn't being offered by a Skoda dealership so I guess they won't move on the cam belt issue. ( I'm going to check my Fabia service book this evening 1.9 tdi 105 bhp, to all extent and purpose the same engine ( ?? ) I assume

Actually. Doing some more searching it seems for the BJB engine as used in the FL Octavia the interval they have given you is correct.

Maybe ask for confirmation of the engine code.

Thanks Phil,

from the sellers email it would appear that this particular car was ordered with variable servicing so maybe that ( along with the point you made regarding it being a FL model ) may have some relevance

Dave

Pretty sure it will be a BXE block and won't have dpf. Mines been faultless bar the dmf.

As said service history and check if it judders on pulling away. It will cost you a penny or two if it needs a new one.
