Simply NOT Clever

Evening All,

After raising a complaint earlier this year with SUK Customer Services about the number of faults and defects with my vehicle, we came to an agreement they would re-imburse me the cost of my after market warranty and to pay for my cambelt replacement, if I paid for the waterpump.

SUK CS stated they would confirm the price of the cambelt with Henry's Skoda, Glasgow which is my preferred Skoda dealership, to establish how much they would have to contribute.  I found this surprising due to Skodas National Pricing policy, but a few days later, SUK CS stated they had been informed by Henrys Skoda the price they charge to replace a cambelt and waterpump is £349, therefore SUK would contribute £249.  I pointed out Skoda National Pricing listed a cambelt and waterpump at £449, but SUK stated they had been informed Henrys Skoda charge £349, and that was the price they were sticking to.

Last week I booked my vehicle in to have the cambelt and waterpump replaced at Henrys Skoda and I informed them SUK would be paying for the cambelt and I would pay for the waterpump. Later that afternoon, I received a telephone call informing me Henrys Skoda deny they told SUK the cost for both was £349, and SUK CS are refusing to increase their contribution.  To maintain my after market warranty I have to abide by the manufacturers maintainance schedule, therefore, I now have to pay the extra £100 over what was agreed. If I was being benevolent, I would say, one of them has made a mistake and is not prepared to lose face by admitting to it.  How I really feel would not be passed by Teflon Tom!

As a consequence of this, and with the defects and failures I have experienced with my vehicle, I will think long and hard about buying or even recommending a Skoda.

As an aside, due to conflicting information, I asked SUK CS for a definitive answer as to when my cambelt was due for renewal.  They had to contact the Skoda factory as they did not know.   I was informed it is vehicles registered after September 2010 which have a 5 year cambelt replacement, prior to that it is 4 years.

Did you ask or phone Henrys' beforehand to ask how much they actually charge for the work?

It sounds like you knew there was a discrepency so it would have been worth confirming with both parties first, and maybe ask SUK to put their offer in writing to you.

Hope this doesn't sound nasty as it does seem like they have stitched you up!

When booking the car in I said I expected there would be issues over who was paying for what, but I expected that to be sorted out between SUK and Henry's. It's the fact that neither would budge on it, and I have to make up the shortfall.

The guys at the Service Desk have been brilliant, they werethe one's it's who informed me I would have to pay the extra £100, not the guy who allegedly gave the wrong price to SUK.

Do you have it in writing?
