Inspection message

Featured Replies

Every time I start my car I get an 'Inspection now!' message, even though it isn't due a service for thousands of miles. I've been through the instrument cluster with VCDS and can't find a way to clear it.

My pre FL never showed this message, just the distance to service counter. Both cars have the CFGB engine.

Any clues??

After a bit more poking around.....

17 - instruments - adaptation - channel 'FIX: distance covered since last mileage dependant inspection' set this to 0km and hit 'do it!'

Inspection is now reset and hasn't affected the miles to oil change service indicator.

The car is on variable servicing by the way. Still don't quite understand the need for a separate inspection interval.

So an 'Inspection' service does not include an oil and filter change then?

I wonder what effect these 20 k interval oil change will have on engine longevity

Probably none.

My last Superb 2.0 did 210,000 miles in 7 years with no engine problems, this one has so far done 123,000 in 5 years, also with no problems, both on variable servicing, although the average is at approx. 18,500 miles rather than exactly 20k.

There's a lot of out-of-date info. floating around about oil change intervals based on materials etc. that were around 20 / 30 / 40 years ago. Modern syntheitic oils coupled with modern machining methods and metallurgy means that 20,000 between changes is probably less critical than the 5,000 mile changes fro m 40 odd years ago.

Tried this today on mine

Didnt work but setting days since last inspection to 0 in vcds as above did. Thanks for the pointer

The 'inspection' service is a money-spinner to keep the dealer network sweet i.e. to get you through their doors more often. No parts are changed, it is literally an inspection.
