Suspension

Featured Replies

Quick one, do I go for;

1.     Budget coilovers like JOM/Prosport and a rear ARB,  or

2.     Mid coilovers like AP without the bar?

Spend as much as you can on the basic kit....

I'd say the AP kit.

The only thing that puts me off the AP kit, is that it doesn't seem to lower by a lot?

Less than a finger in the arch is what id class as low enough. The cheaper ones drop low but id rather have a better quality part than another 10-20mm adjustment. Id suggest ap coilovers then get the rarb later when funds permit.

Any help guys?

Mines back to standard now after playing about with springs. Fresh shocks new top mount bushes and standard springs. I can take some measurements tomorrow.

That would be great thanks

I got Koni Sport with matched -30mm springs which puts mine about 10-15mm below a standard VRS I think. I reckon this is a good height. I briefly had it lower and it ground on everything.

If I did it again I'd do it in this order though

1) RARB

2) fresh bushings throughout

3) sport suspension

I went for the suspension first as mine was knackered and **** all around.

As standard as they come is my car. I took some measurements. Bear in mind its on new shocks, and top mounts which can drop them when worn. Front height from wheel centre to arch: 37cm drivers side. 2mm less passenger side. Rear drivers side is : 36cm. 1mm less passenger side.

Want me to measure my ap coilovers?

Yeah can do please, are your APs at their lowest setting?

Don't forget you can lower the front by another 10mm by using polybush top mounts

I've got Powerflex top mounts, don't remember it lowering it anymore though?

Iv got lcr top mounts. Rears on lowest at 330mm fronts are 5 threads from lowest and that's 340mm although the car hasn't been driven and I will be lowering the front all the way and raising the rear slightly.

The powerflex bushes dont lower the car. The polybush top mounts do lower by 10mm but fitting them requires modified top plates.

I did a follow up review on standard top mounts vs audi 80's somewhere...

basically, don't go for the audi 80 top mounts, they are basically a solid metal core with a thin (1/2 inch?) rubber outer. It lowers the car a LOT but makes the ride very, very harsh. I expect the polybushes are much better though...

Cheers everyone, mine is already lower then the AP kit, so that rules them out...
