Two different generations of wheel bearings? What's the difference?

Featured Replies

So last week my abs light decided to come on, I plugged it into vagcom and the fault came up saying a electrical fault in the loom to the wheel sensor. I replaced the wheel sensor and checked the cable but still nothing.

Now been led to believe it is probably the wheel bearing so took it to a friend who has rung jayar car parts and they're waiting to find out what generation hub I have, apparently there are two different types of hubs and bearings for the front just wondering if anyone knows the difference and if I can find out what one I have

Thanks

You have gen 2. Where the hub flange and bearing are one complete unit drom the factory as apposed to gen1 where you press the bearing into the hub then press the hub flange into the bearing. The two types on the fabia are 66mm and 73mm iirc. The 66mm ones were non abs non pas 1.0ltr ones I think. If you have abs it will be the 73mm type. All gen 2 will need special tools to fit or a mechanic with skills and tight fitting spacers

The 1.2 6v engines have a smaller diameter flange on the bearing. The bigger bearing fits in the hub but the small disk won't fit on it

I just had my offside front hub bearing replaced on my 2005 Fabia VRS and no mention of two-types of bearing, from garage.

However, you will need to have the complete hub bearing assembly having a magnetic ring for ABS wheel sensor pick-up.

Garage had the necessary heavy hub bearing removal and hub bearing replacement tool, (it is not a DIY), as also not advised on this site too..

You can buy the full hub bearing assembly with the magnetic ring from E-Bay, costing half what SKODA asks, your choice..
