What could be wrong with this fabia vrs..? powersteering fault

Featured Replies

basically seen this car on ebay about 2 months ago, then seen it for sale and someone else had it now another guys got it hes lowered it, but since it was advertised first time its had a power steering problem, i been told its had a new power steering pump and new steering rack with a invoice as proof but still fault remains, he is now telling me its down to an angle speed sensor.. is this right and is there any way to check as im swapping my leon cupra for it and dont want to spend crazy money on it to sort it, ive already had the privlage of changing power steering pumps on fabias before and it wasnt cheap...

What do you guys think is wrong with the car?

It could be the sensor.

Worse ways you find a second hand rack/pump to swap.

Is it a silver 05 one?

I sold him my coilovers and was looking over it. I've got a feeling it just needs the pump coding as he had new rack and pump but didn't code the pump. I did say that at the time to him. He'd just had it mapped that day if it's the same one

Yeah I often spend hundreds on new racks being fitted with new pumps to not change a cheap sensor....

Id question the parts he has fitted, is the pump new or second hand scrap yard jobbie?

The rack was leaking so he changed that and someone told him it would be the pump when it still didn't work. I told him to try the sensor and get the pump coded but he must of lost interest. I don't know if they were new or not, it was a friend of a friend type thing that told him I had coilovers for sale

It's only because I bought a fabia with a steering fault that had a new pump fitted... But the "new pump" turned out to be the fault to send me on abit of a wild goose chase!

I paid £50 at a scrap yard and got a powerd steering pump, the pipes from the pump to the rack and the angle sensor.

I removed the battery and put it on charge to make sure it was 100% and cleaned all the earths around the pump area, bullhead and strut area.

Doing that eliminated almost every fault it could have had and worked a treat after :) no coding or fault clearing needed.

I asked about the battery and fuses etc and that had all been checked. The pump might not need coding then I thought it did need to so it probably is the sensor if that's the case. I understand you being wary as buyer but he had no reason to lie to me and he's said the same to you as he did to me so seems genuine. Can't really help you anymore I'm afraid but hope it is the sensor if you get it. It did sound nice when he set off in it, it's got a stainless exhaust on it

Yeah that's the car, it's got a miltek I think, did it blow much smoke and initially the deal was I keep my bbs wheels and he gives me 200 on top now he only wants to do a straight swap no cash involved

I didn't see it go I was locking my shed back up. I'm not sure on the make but it was a twin staggered tip on it. It had a sunroof which I didn't know you could have on a fabia and had heated seats. Looked to be in reasonable condition from what I saw of it.

Is yours a cupra or a cupra r?
