Haven't had service for 23000 km

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm a complete noob it is about cars and mechanics...

3 days ago I bought a used Skoda Octavia GLX i , 2000 model, with his service book... As i was in rush to find a car , to get to my job i found it as a perfect solution, but..!

All the car services where done at right time by the previous owners expect that

the last service was done more than 23000 km, before, so now is the SERVICE INSP light on, on the panel, which I also didn't see when I bought the car...

Now i  have to go to work for 7 days so i won't be able to go for service until then... These 7 days i will travel about 500 km.

Which are the risks?

 thanks in advance.

23000km is about 14500miles since last service, some cars go 20000 miles between services

500km is 312miles, so i wouldnt worry to much, just get it done when you can

Congrats to a pretty solid car! It will be alright for those 500 km. You can still make some checks before by yourself:

Oil level check

Put the car on a level surface.

Turn off the engine and let it cool for a while.

Then locate the dipstick (mätstickan) and pull it up and wipe it off.

Now you should see some sort of MIN MAX reading and a scale in between.

Put it back in all the way and then pull it out again.

Check the oil level and color of the oil. If it's brown, caramel then it's alright. If it's black like coffee then you need an oil change when you get home.

If it's grey or milky then you will have a problem (very unlikely but still can happen)

Check the condition of the tyres

Check how deep thread you have on the tyres

Check for uneven wear over the surface

Check for cracks (torrsprickor)

Check the tyre pressure at a Statoil/OKQ8. The recommended pressure should read in the manual or maybe on a sticker behind the fuel filler cap or when you open the drivers door. You should have some more air in the rear tyres than the front.

(I have 2.0 bar in front and 2.3 rear but this depends on how much you load and what tyres you have )

Check the condition of the brakes visually

Try to check the thickness of the brake pads on the front disc brakes and so that the disc is smooth and not very worn

Where in Sweden do you live?

Hi!

Thanks for your help mates, very helpful, good advice also for DIY check up :)

I live in Helsingborg!

I've had this car about a week  now (4th or 5th owner) and i love it!

But more problems occur while the days pass...

For example, the first day i drove with 4 persons in the car, directly when they got in, it started making noises from rear suspensions I suppose, even though we weren't moving.

(Now these noises are much less, so I thought maybe the car for a long time wasn't loaded with people in the back seats so the suspensions were stuck?)

Furthermore, when I put in the second gear, it feels usually like it goes in with a lot of ´nerve´, what could that be?

I have to take my car to an original Skoda garage, as soon as possible, can´t wait!

Hasselhoax kan vi snacka alltså på svenska? :)

Also what price would you think about a Scoda Octavia GLX i, 2000(made in november 1999), 202000 km? is 15.000 swedish kroner too much?

15.000 Kroner is approx £1,600

I would imagine a 15 year old Octavia even though the mileage is low (125K miles) i would say it is about £1,000 too dear.... but that would be in the UK.
