Post sale problems

Hello, my first time on this forum. I hope you can give me some useful advice. Ive had a search but couldnt find out quite what I was after for so:

I bought my Skoda on 19/4...so just under 3 months. its a 1.4tdi estate, it is a 58 plate. It had a few cosmetic issues; the person before had a dog and it had chewed the blind/boot cover and one of the air vents inside. The air vent was replaced, the blind repared so that it shut and I felt I had got a good deal because I want that bothered about a little cosmetic wear and tear.

taking it home I have found the clutch a bit of getting used to ...but partly I put that down to it being a 1.4 rather than a 1.9 that I was used to...But my partner still srtuggles with it a bit and it is definetly"high" . I had a mechanic friend look at it and he said I should get Skoda to have a look at it.So I have.I also got them to look at two other issues:

I have noticed that the rear windoe demister doesnt work and that the seal on the boot keeps coming off in one corner

Skoda have come back to me saying that the clutch is high but wont cause probs in future, the boot seal is split but not covered by warrenty and the rear elements are knackerd...equally not covered.

Im not very happy about this and told them so . I was assured when I bought the car it had been thouroughly checked and that they should have picked up on these defects.I would have paid less if I had known.

The sales manager is going to talk to the sales person who sold it to me and get back to me...

Do people know how I stand legally with this? And should I be worried that the clutch?

Sorry to leave such a long first post. Any advice is appreciated.

Shaun

Welcome to the forum.

It will be the Dealership that needs to look at the Clutch.

Even if it is a Skoda Approved Used Car, & a Skoda Dealer,  it is the Dealers Warranty, an Extended Skoda Warranty or what?

(Skoda the company will have nothing to look at.)

Is it Skoda saying it is not Warranty Issues or the Dealership.?

The car is past a 3 or 5 Year Skoda Warranty.

?  Is it a 3 month Warranty you received on Major Components when you bought the car?

Who Underwrites it on the Warranty Papers?

So if you are not happy with the answers you are getting then you might need a Qualified Mechanic who is prepared to Commit to Paper

his Opinion to the Clutch and Clutch Issues, & speak with the Dealership about this.

?? What is the Sales Manager going to ask the Salesperson., ?

The Sales manager knows his Stock and what they did to the car, they sell cars week in week out.

Talk to the Dealership Principal & ask to speak with him and the Workshop Manage or Master Tech at the same time.

Sales Managers sell cars, not repair them.

If the Dealership do not want to quote you happy and the Mechanicals of the car are faulty or unsafe, then Trading Standards are there.

all the best.

Hi Thanks for your reply. Its a skoda approved one year warranty. its the dealer whos saying not under warranty.

I suppose they know that Skoda UK will not accept things like Seals & Heated screens at this stage in a cars life.

So if they are going to be repaired it will be the Dealership paying for it.

If it is a 'Skoda Approved used Car',

the Dealership should have had those issues sorted out at point of sale.

Luckily you have enough time on the Warranty if any major mechanical problems come up in that time.

A Warranty does not usually cover a clutch though.

But if it had a replacement clutch already, that should be correctly fitted and adjusted, so the Dealership should check that before selling the car.

Do people know how I stand legally with this?

As it is within 6 months of purchase, it is assumed that the vehicle was defective when purchased, unless the retailer to demonstrate that it wasn't (or the nature of the fault is condusive to it having occurred afterwards).  The question then becomes, is it reasonable for the rear demister to fail on a 5-6 year old car, or is it deemed to be "fair wear and tear"?  If the answer is no, then it's the dealer's responsibility to repair it.

The above would be in addition to any warranty provisions you may have, but would relate solely to the supplying dealer.

The previous owner's dog probably scratched the demister wire as well ! The wires are tiny, but should be visible to check continuity.

If no joy under warranty, there used to be a conductive paint for just such a problem - probably from Halfrauds.

would that be halfords?

this is one of those issues that as a buyer isnt easy to spot, i mean who goes and looks at the heating wires in the back window when buying a car? and so long as its not raining youd never need to try this on a test drive so i really think the dealer should be fixing this issue as it wasnt an obvious issue when you bought it so how could you test it etc

you could try cit advice too, there great with stuff like this, helped me no end when my stealer refused to replace the window rubbers even though they were listed on the sales ticket as required work, it ended up costing them a whole new window as they were bonded to the glass, made me smile no end ( not a skoda dealer ;) ) so if you have something saying it was checked over then it should have been checked over, full stop

my stealer even suggested i smash it and claim off the insurance, my answer isnt printable, but i said you try it if you wish i just want this fixed at no cost to me, how you do it is your buisness

word of advice to anyone buying second hand, get any jobs you asked to be done at the point of sale in writing on the sale document signed by both YOU and the DEALER, open and shut case when thats done
