Greetings from the Netherlands!

Hi people,

after making a few posts here already, time for a formal introduction :-).

I work in the Netherlands as a storage systems engineer (presales). I'm currently 32 years old and have wife and two kids (2.5 and 0.5 years old), a boy and a girl.

I'm interested in cars, games, IT, languages, the normal stuff. I am a Skoda-driver to be and love being on the road.

My current car is a BMW 320d EDE saloon and my lease contract is due in october (we drive company cars and get to order them ourselves within certain guidelines such as brands, models and mandatory kit).

I'ved opted not to get another BMW and ordered a new... Skoda! Initially I went for the 2.0 TDI version with a score of options (basically full option and then some) but that was shot down due to the car being a bit out-of-balance on the options, considering the base price of 'only' 34k (our lease allowance is 52k in euros including options).

So the car has to be more expensive and less options... bit of a bummer, the Skoda was interesting because of the bang-for-buck ratio.

How do we make this Octavia more interesting to drive when it is up against some stiff competition? Most of the cars my colleagues have are BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-class, VW Passat, Seat Exeo, Audi A4...

So I've changed my order and selected the Octavia Combi RS diesel (diesel is mandatory because of our high mileage and the associated fuel cost).

Black Mica paint, RS black pack, half-leather seats, a bit of audio tuning, tinted windows, 18" alloy wheels and no badges on the back for that special sleeper car look.

It's a popular car in the Netherlands (because there is a eco-friendly Octavia, the 1.6 TDI, which is very cheap to run because of very low taxation) so the wait time is extensive: 4+ months.

Good things come to those who wait they say, so I will be happily waiting by the phone until they call me for an appointment to pick up my new ride for the next four years:

That is a very nice choice of car and spec. Lucky you. :)

Thank you :-), I'm very happy with it. I also chose black because it's less conspicuous, we have a lot of "VROS" (video surveillance and recording) vehicles from the Dutch police driving around in the Netherlands.

Those are always unmarked police cars and hard to recognize (for the untrained eye, of course) and they will follow you if they suspect you are up to something (road mischief, basically). Flashy cars stand out and get noticed more ;-).
