Trading in Octy III for a Spaceback

Featured Replies

Sounds a bit crazy but the Octy III very sadly is becoming increasingly uncomfortable to drive, which seems to be down to the odd positioning of the foot pedals; getting effectively a repetitive strain injury in my right hip joint according to the doc. Have no such discomfort mind driving our Monte, so thought we'd look at the Rapid, as they are on similar platforms.

Went to a dealers today; not one I've visited before, to look at an ex demo Elegance TDI 105 in white, with the sunroof, 16" wheels, sat nav and sports seats, also tried the normal seats on a similar spec demo but with 17" rims, as well as another demo but TSI 105, again on 17" rims.

To cut a long story short we preferred the performance and ride of the petrol, the comfort of the sports seats and the handling on 17" rims. So we've ended up potentially agreeing a deal, after protracted negotiations, on a new car in the showroom already in that configuration. Mind its much more than we intended on spending, as the thing has the full sport plus style pack :o However we were very taken by it as its in rallye green and looks very smart with the contrasts of black glass roof/boot, sunset glass and black mirrors, rear lights and fogs with the green paint. Also liked the fact the 17" wheels where silver; black wheels as well might have been a little too much, although I think most might disagree.

Also thankfully this car has a factory spare but otherwise an SE spec with the exception of the full piano black dash inserts as part of the sport pack.

Looking at collection towards the end of the month if we go ahead, as this suites both parties for reasons various, so will post more at the time.

Sounds like it took a while for you to find out about the odd driving position causing you problems in the Octy.

Have you considered that you stand a chance of getting the same issue in the Rapid due to he Skoda design.

Your Monte being an older fabia would have a slightly older layout design, & the Rapid / Octavia 3 will most likely be the same newer one?

I only ask as there is an Ex Octy 2 owner who had to switch brands, due to the design of the seats which was causing discomford on medium - long drives..

Yes the issue seems to have developed over time but the doc suggests that such a thing can happen, as inflammation can take a while to build up before you start noticing that you have a problem.

Have tried a few other makes of car with mixed results and even considered another Fabia but the Rapid seems pretty close to the Fabia set up and the foot pedals similarly line up properly with the seat and steering wheel, rather than as in the Octavia the clutch is almost in the middle and the accelerator is about as far right as you can find room to put it. Plus it has a little more room and is more refined but both cars run on Polo derived under pinnings.

Worst comes to the worst the wife is much more happy driving a Rapid than she is the current Octy, so we could do a car swap.
