Engine Noise Octavia VRS Tappets?

Featured Replies

Hi I'm Maticus,

I had the misfortune of my 96,000 mile mk1 octavia VRS estate written off the other week by a post van!!.

Since that time I have sourced and bought a Mk2 07 VRS estate- 53,000 miles, beautiful car, really good condition considering age, really tidy engine/bay interior etc. its had its cam/aux/water pump/coolant replaced as part of the deal- happy days........

However driving home; 1.5hrs from the dealer, I began to notice a ticking/tapping sound when parked with the engine still on. This noise can be heard from inside the car and increases its rhythm in time with the revs- sounds a bit like a modern diesel really...?  quite different from my mk1 vrs?

I noticed a couple of minor other things that needed to be replaced (cracked radiator fan etc) so emailed the dealer. He said he would rectify the faults and take a look into the noise, he has flushed the engine and replaced the oil and filters as part of the 3month/3000 mile warranty. The cars seems to run quieter from start up but as soon as its warm the tappety noise becomes noticeable.

I am going to take it to a local Skoda garage for them to have a quick look and listen advise and peace of mind- sounds different t my mk1 and have very little reference point for standard/quality of engine noise.

I have a video that I am going to put up and would be very grateful for some advise from you guys.
