How can I upgrade the ICE in a MKIII Octavia VRs

Featured Replies

I am looking at buying a new Octavia vRS and I know I will probably want to upgrade the ICE, but have a lot of questions. I have a set up in my current focus that I would look to move over if I can, including Amp, Speakers and Sub.

So Questions

Given that the touchscreen on the installed headunit controls the car, what would you need to install an aftermarket headunit with touchscreen to keep that functionality?

Is it easier to do the upgrades with the standard unit or the Canton system?

Am I better keeping the installed headunit and hooking in the wiring somewhere else?

I have seen an infodapter on sale which says you will see the same information on an aftermarket unit, but doesn't talk about being able to use the touchscreen to adjust settings. Am I correct in this?

Thanks

The whole system is fully integrated into the car using fibre optics. Upgrading is very difficult because the radio display screen is also the main place for altering settings and getting info about whats going on (known as infotainment). You would need to retain the screen otherwise you'll not be able to alter any car settings or get access to the diagnostics.

Upgrading is almost, if not impossible even using OEM headunits. Your best bet and possibly only option is to stick with the standard setup and upgrade the speakers. If you go canton you get an additional amp and subwoofer, but again its fibre optics except the wiring to the (already upgraded) speakers.

Does the Non-canton have an amp under the passenger seat as well?
