New Multi Media Unit !

Featured Replies

So as the title says, the audio unit (bolero) would not switch on, the analogue clock froze for a few minutes, then the screen when black for a further 2 minutes, no sound then started up with sound. Presets were lost along with the station logos. Dealer had the vehicle for the morning and on collection was told a new Multi Media Unit was on order due to corruption. Still under warranty (£650 and 3 1/2 hours to fit) Just a little heads up.

Wonder how much Columbus will ruin me if its stops working, btw I changed my Amundsen to Columbus for £200 (bought the unit over eBay and Skoda dealer installed it (total £800

Your dealer managed to upgrade a MIB Amundsen to a MIB Columbus in an Octavia III? That is a first as no one else has managed it yet, including dealers!

Took aprox 5h, they needed to verify the owner of the new unit with Skoda to approve the installation. The new mib:s s/n and the car vim nr generates a unique file that's needed on a sd card the first time you start it.

I know one of the engineers there and he said you could just pay Skoda to remove the MOST lock and while the old unit is "on" unplugg and replace and the gateway should still think it's the old unit and write the old file to the new unit (only works if it's Amundsen to Columbus due to gps puck is already programmed) . I'll speak with him more on Friday and verify it, I'm gonna test it on a friends O3 on Saturday.

Well it's back, Now with no voice control, no Bluetooth and doesn't recognise the iPod connected through the mdi port ! ! Cracking job P******* Skoda ! !

I'm getting a new unit to replace my Columbus too. It's locked up a few times and played static when I've turned it on from time to time. The dealer ran a diagnostic on it, found a fault and are replacing the unit and the aerial. I was surprised that they found anything, diagnostics on intermittent problems are rarely successful.

I've already had a replacement Columbus for exactly those faults - loud blast of static at power on and random lock ups.

Beware though as the replacement unit I got was software v0111 (the faulty one was upgraded from 0101 to 0202 due to DAB logos not displaying on the station info view).

So, back in it goes for a software upgrade, only to be told by the muppets at Simpsons, Colne that it was 'up to date' and DAB station logos for presets need 'downloading from the internet'. Errr - I know that you fools! It wasn't booked in because I am incapable of assigning logos to presets!

So, they kindly assigned logos to my station presets - but they couldn't even get that right as they assigned 5 Live to TalkSport, 5 Live extra to 5 Live and vice versa. The fact that these logos don't display in the Station Info view seemed to have been ignored by them. But at least I now have the wrong logos assigned to my DAB presets, thanks Simpsons. The fact that it was themselves that upgraded the software last time for exactly the same fault, and it fixed the fault, also seems to have gone ignored. The best test of this is tuning to BBC WS as it broadcasts the logo OTA - if you switch to Slideshow or Station Info view the logo magically appears in front of your eyes!

And it went in with the latest maps on it and came out with 2012 maps on it - over 2 years out of date! Thanks, I now have to spend 2 hours updating my maps again.

So, it is in to a different dealers this week to get the job done properly and a nice email 'praising' Simpsons for their attention to detail and customer service will be on its way to Alisdair Stewart, Skoda UK brand manager.

Andy, I can't believe you are getting another Octy after all the hassles you've had!

The hassles are mainly down to the dealer TBH - if they did the job right the first time instead of it taking 3 visits to prove the fault and involving SUK every time to make sure they actually do the work.

Thanks for the info, I'll check what's on mine and ask them to put the latest software and maps on whilst they have it. Have you had any similar problems with the new unit?

Only been in a week , no probably so far.

Mine's back in tomorrow. Do you think the wrong unit could've been fitted ? Or a programming issue ?

Purely lack of attention to detail by the dealer, they should have updated it but didn't.

For those missing speed limit signs, check you have the option in the Map menu to show them. If you don't, it hasn't been coded correctly. I have posted in the O3 adaptations thread how to enable it with VCDS for a Columbus.

It's back with me again, now working, was told the tech hadn't read all the instructions ! And had to contact tech support to finish the job ! I don't know if that included to oily hand prints on the door handles !

Went to a brand new dealership today to have a nose and a chat and I think I'll give them a try for further work !
