Skoda Octavia estate or VW Golf (variant)estate

Featured Replies

Hi

I´m about to look for a new car. Can´t decide between Skoda or VW Golf. Both with 1.4 TSI DSG and both on 3 years leasing.

As for Octavia I have a offer for the following:

Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.4 TSI with the following equipment:

- Panoramic sunroof

- SIMPLY CLEVER Package

- 3 spoke leather MFSW with  with controls for radio and telephone

- Bi-Xenon, AFS and LED daytime running lights & cornering fog lights

- Temporary space saver spare wheel (for 17" or 18" wheels)

- Towbar

- Sunset glass from B-pillar back

- Silver roof rails

- 17" ‘Teron’ alloys

- Black ‘Alcantara’ and leather*

- Canton sound system

Is there something that I will miss from the factory fitted optional equipment? Like Adaptive cruise control?

For the new Golf Highline I have the following equipment:

NET WALL
REAR VIEW CAMERA
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL W / FRONT ASSIST
17 "ALU MADRID
ADAPTIVE BI-XENON W / LED LIGHTS
ERGO ACTIVE SPORT SEATS
MEDIA-IN WITH ADAPTER FOR IPHONE 5

Both models have winter package (for Norway)

Both cars will cost me the same amount of money per month, partly because of one having lower interest rate offering.

Delivery Octavia: One month (if I spec myself it will be delivered late october)

Delivery Golf : september/october

Does anyone have the opportunity to share their experiences?

I spent a week in Austria driving the golf variant a couple of months ago. It's typical golf, essentially the same as an Octavia only smaller. Depends on how much room you want. I'm on my 4th Octavia since 2006, part cost part room, it's not possible to get a car of the same size and quality for the money. One thing that surprised me is that the golf cabin didn't appear as 'plush' as the Octavia. I like the room of the Octavia and the performance of the VRS and couldn't live with the smaller golf for everyday life

I am in Australia and was buying at the budget end of the golf / Octavia ranges so cannot offer any advice on the features each are offering.

However what struck me was that the Octavia offered a much bigger rear opening into the similar sized boots that makes loading things like bikes much easier.

I banged my head twice while just looking in the back of the Golf and that has never happened on the two Octavia estates  mk2 and now mk3 I have owned.

Only thing I can offer on this relates to space, if you cart round a lot of luggage of dogs or have a decent size family then maybe the Octy is a better bet as it is the class leader for luggage capacity?
