Just wanted to check whether it is fairly normal for the 1.2 (70hp version) to sound fairly growly. My mrs is thinking of buying one and I test drove it today. Drove great, but just sounded louder than I had expected! Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hi, the 1.2 HTP with its 3 cyl engine has a characteristic growling sound which most people like. I've even heard someone liken it to driving a Ferrari .

 

I had the (70) HTP prior to my current 1.2 Tsi. It's a fine engine and is very responsive round town while having plenty of grunt for the open road.

 

My only criticism of it was that once you reach 70 on the motorway ( and it will do that and more with ease) the fuel consumption falls away to something close to 35 mpg.

 

A great runaround with a really nice 'growl'
