got the dreaded M.O.T today!

What a thread.

I don't care how hard up you are or if you don't have the time to fix issues. Driving a car that's not road worthy is just idiotic.

I don't care how safe you think your car is, if you're driving around with undeclared mods and you hit someone, your insurance is void. If I were the other driver, I'd want to wring your neck. I don't know whether that thread you started was a joke or not, but it was bloody stupid either way.

Besides, when we're talking about cars, it's pretty easy to polish a turd. Might look nice on the outside, but with the dodgy MOTs you seem to have confessed to having had done, who knows what your car is like underneath? Probably not that safe if you feel the need to get some dodgy garage to do your MOT rather than have it done properly.

Agreed.

What so you think garages that rip people off and over charge do better work and are more honest?

Its quite funny you read down the forum and you see, "my engine warning light its on", "my turbo blew up", "I have a strange sound when I break", "I have a strange knocking sound", all from people who probably overpay rip off garages to maintain and MOT there cars.

Then I look at my car, the Engine Warning Light has NEVER been on in over a year when it last came on after I flushed and changed to coolant, and list time it was bleeding the coolant pipes turned it off.

The Turbo pulls perfect and is not even beginning to show any bad signs, but then it is hooked up to a twin pass FMIC and I only use Mobil F1 oil that I change ever 10,000 without fail.

I break without any stutter, there was probably 5,000 left in my pad last time I changed them from a legal perspective, I changed them and the discs at the first sign of loss of performance when breaking, and am running callipers of the octavia vrs with performance discs and pad, I would bet that when I last changed my discs and pad it was still giving better stopping performance than 95% of Fabias on the road.

as for a knocking sound yea I have a slight one thats recently started up I think its just a busher and maybe a ball joint, on the near side, ball joint does have a rip in the protective cover, something I noticed last weekend while I was changing the discs, it wasn't an MOT fail, but thats probably because its last MOT was last October when it was probably perfectly fine and cruised though, so I noticed this slight problem a couple of weeks back so what should I do about it you think, well I could wait till the next MOT in october and grind it out till them, I bet thats what many on here would do assuming they even noticed such a problem in the first place, but no instead I have 2 new ball joints on the way, even though only one side is a little suspect, new top mounts front and back  just to me sure, new spring mounts, full set of powerflex bushes on order, even though I have jut one suspect bush but what the hell I want all powerflex replacements anyway so since I have one that is a little suspect I will change them all, and while I am at it I will be replacing all dampers and springs for the Bilstein B12, ok I confess this was something I wanted to do anyway, but a slight knocking on the near side, that is likely the result of one slightly damaged busher and having notice a slight rip in a cover protecting a ball joint has pushed me into changing all this.

So you tell me who the hell are you and the people on here to question the maintenance level I impose on my car?

Garages that rip people off are just as bad, I wouldn't take my car to them either. But that's not the point I'm making. To put it as clear as I possibly can for you, as you're obviously struggling, the point I'm making is why are you happy to have people work on your car when you know they're dodgy and are happy to overlook things? I just can't comprehend why you'd want to drive around in something when you know it's not right.

Here's a nice little scenario for you, I'm off to compete at a grass autotest this afternoon so I had a rummage in the shed for a suitable set of wheels and tyres to use. I found a pair I liked the look of, reasonably chunky tread pattern so should give slightly better grip across the terrain I'll be on, put them on the car and went out to get some fuel. Car didn't feel as it should. It was pulling to the right under power. Normally it gets a bit of torque steer, but this just wasn't normal. Took it home and whipped the wheels back off to have a look. One wheel is buckled so I've put another pair on and all is well again.

See safety is easy so you don't need to drive around in a bodged car worked on by dodgy garages.

HTH.

CATs are required, even on diesels from last year on.if you pass without your lucky :)

Even though the diesel is not emission checked it states if a cat is fitted as standard it must be there.

Clearly not ! I must've been lucky for the last 5 mot's then at the same garage with a different tester every year...

Only came in in 2013 to be part of a test for a diesel :)

Search on line for MOT testers manual, have a read up :)

I have to agree, the update not that long ago regarding cats and dpf's stated that if they left the factory with one then it has to have one visible and in place.

People have issues with what you've said because of the potential danger to other road users if your car was passed with defects.

If I was ever going to do something like get a dodgy test, I would tread very carefully and certainly not publish it on a public internet forum that are regularly trolled by her majesty's constabulary! Technically you could be pulled over by VOSA at any point and have your car inspected. A passed MOT means your car was deemed roadworthy for when it was presented for test. It may get 400 yards down the road and be unroadworthy!!
