Wheres safe to drill?

Featured Replies

Dont know if this should be in tech or ice section move if it does.

Wondering where is safe to drill on the drivers side wheel arch in the boot of my furby vrs.

need to rivet some angle brackets to mount my amp and am unsure if there is anything behind the wheel arch. i kniw the fuel filler neck goes past it is there anything else?

thanx :D

Hmmmm.

From memory of stripping my wrecked Fabia, there is lots of space around the rear wheel arch, between the liner and the chassis. The fuel line, etc is more forward.

I would say its pretty safe to drill through most of the boot end of the arch, but would make sure when you feel the drill starting to go through, FFS back it off so you don't go straight through and that few inches of bit find its way into something else. :D

[usual disclaimers apply]

Oh, and blob silicone or whatever around the fixing on both sides, to prevent rot, etc.

I wanted my amp on a wheelarch too, but after a lot of debating, I ended up with putting it on the rear of the back seats as per this thread.

Turned out very neat. I can still fold the seats, it doesn't really eat into my boot space, no spare wheel access problems - its a good solution. Naturally put the drill bit as far into the drill as possible so it is only sticking out half an inch so there is no chance of it going through the seat

There are hard bits and soft bits, so you will have to be careful lining things up if you take this road.
