Amunsden Sat Nav no Post Code search option?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just received the sat nav SD card in the post as the dealer did not have card when I collected the car on monday.

I cant seem to find the option to search the address with the post code. Is there any way to do that or do I have to put the town, street address etc. etc.

Thanks

Saurabh

It's hidden in plain sight. Go to enter an address, click the first line for street and in the bottom left corner there is a button called "pst cd" or something.

Press that and you can enter a post code, but no house number :-(

Being german built it defaults to numbers at the start which whilst a PITA, also ensure you go through the setup carefully otherwise it'll offer you three different routes, being quickest, shortest and least fuel sorry dunno which "est" that is.  It ok and works well enough, if you set your Traffic reports for "Route Only" it'll warn you of anything ahead but doesn't give you any options to avoid jams !

That is very helpful tip. I will try messing with the settings.

Thanks

.

I have had my car 2 weeks now and still trying to get to grips with the dfifferent features.

Thanks for pointing out the hidden postcode search function - it's certainly not obvious!

The issue that I have is that whatever postcode I enter, it always states "no street information available" or something similar, so I do not have confidence that the selected destination is actually correct, (as in localised to a street).

Does anyone else get this happen? or am I missing something.

Cheers,

John.

You are not missing anything - the Amundsen cannot support house numbers in postcode mode which is what I think you are referring to. I don't know if house numbers work when entering the address directly as I've never tried it. Pretty impressive sat nav isn't it? Not.

Hi M.m

Sorry - I didn't make it very clear.

Say I enter a postcode HAxxx which is in Harrow.

It finds Harrow, HAxxx without any street name and then gives the message "no street information available" or something similar.

Hence the reason for a lack of confidence that it is goingf to guide me to the street I need!

I am used to TomTom which on a post code search gives a list of street names associated with same or adjacent post codes.

Ok I understand now.

What you describe is how it is meant operate so you are not doing anything wrong.

If you want to double check that you have entered the correct post code after you have set up the route, then touch the ROUTE icon at the foot of the screen. Then select ROUTE  INFO and finally ROUTE LIST (I'm writing this from memory so I hope I'm not mis-remembering here). This should give a list of the road names that will be travelled on the route in sequence, with the last road in the list being the final destination.  But this list could be a bit long if you are travelling from end of the country to another !!

Perhaps somebody else has a better way of validating the accuracy of the post code entry?

Hi M.m

Thanks for confirming that I haven't missed anything.

Does look like Amundsen is a way off TomTom functionality :-(

John, I agree TomTom has more functionality but, it doesn't put the simple arrow directions in the middle of the speedo for me which, once the destination is set is all I use also it doesn't lower my LOUD music volume either or leave sticky marks on my screen.  I woudn't pay for the Amundsen but as it came with the spec we both chose its good enough.
