Again, I have the ISO but can't give a key (Dreamspark account holder) and then via uni I have been given an actual hard copy + key for windows 8.1 pro.

 

Tbh. I'd get the kid a raspberry pi. Get him used to linux on that and flashing some LED's with the GPIO pins. Maybe some python programming if he has the aptitude for it. Sure he can do that on a big PC (well, not GPIO) but its something he can call his. I don't think its hard to learn the basics of linux, move up to administrating servers in future.
