Auto Tailgate Opening from Key Fob

Featured Replies

Having owned my Superb now for a couple of months now and reading through the forum I'm wondering is it easy to get the tailgate to open using the key fob? Is it as simple as finding someone with a VCDS unit and getting them to change the software?

If so is there anyone in the Leeds area that could do this, happy to exchange beer tokens for the service. I'm wondering what else can be done too?

Providing you have the electric tailgate option then it should already OPEN from the remote (VCDS will code it to CLOSE from the remote and interior centre console button).

If no electric tailgate option is present then it isn't going to happen.

Thanks Gizmo

I thought it couldn't be that simple. I don't have the electric tailgate as an option so I guess there'll be no motor in the tailgate?

No the ‘motors’ are in the struts, considering its a £500 option they will not have the wiring etc in place either.

There  is a thread over in the Octavia II forum where a set of strong springs were fitted over the struts on the estate.

When the auto boot release button was pressed on the remote (middle button) and the latch released the springs lifted up the tailgate...

I did that mod on a MK5 Golf, it didn’t last long though, can’t see it working with the heavier tailgate on a Superb.

I can't imagine the tailgate on the Superb is much heavier than that on the Octavia.

The early mods did fail quite early, however after more and more people experimented with different set-ups / springs they seem to have sorted it now.

Brilliant idea. How high do you need to lift the lid on a superb estate before the gas struts take over and finish the job though?
