Which Columbus?

Featured Replies

I seem to have spent far too much time on fleabay looking at Columbus models.

I am completely confused by part numbers and revisions and searching on here has only made it worse.

What part no or revision do I need for a mk2 facelift Octavia with maxidot, mfsw and 5NO 035 730 B rsap only bluetooth?

Pretty much anything but since late 2009: so 3T0...A or later suffix letter will be good to go.

Very recent ones have DAB (since late 2013 I think).

The Columbus version has very little to do with whether the items you list will work as all post-2009 (and possibly earlier) version support both BAP & CAN communication protocols with the Maxidot.

OK thanks, from my research on here it would appear that adamel and yourself seem to be very much in the know so I may drop you a PM for any further advice?

No problem. Feel free to ask here or to PM.

Adam is good with firmware for older Columbus units (3T0... with no suffix) and I'm a little more up to speed with ones from 3T0...A up to the latest DAB units. Neither of us would consider ourselves to be 'experts' though - at least I don't, but Adam will be along soon to correct me...

If you need VCDS coding of the whole lot once its in, I am occasionally passing 'Birmingham' on the way to Nottingham or to pick up stuff and can throw the cable and laptop in and meet up.

That's great, many thanks KB

Spot on am no real expert either, just well read!! And as kb states, mainly on the older units...If you end up with one of the earlier units happy to help, feel free to PM.

I have just purchased a 2013 Columbus from Ebay for my 2011 Octavia VRs. Is it a straightforward swap from the Bolero? Are there any snags I need to look out for?

I am assuming that all the functionality will remain?

I'd appreciated any advice........ Thanks

Bolero out. Columbus in (with GPS antenna).

Then it will probably work fine.

Ideally I'd get it coded with VCDS to ensure 'Navigation' is enabled properly.

Thanks for the advice.........looks simples!

Where should the GPS antenna be sited?

Will my Dealer do the coding, or is there someone on the forum who could do it?

Unlikely the dealer will help, you'll need someone with VCDS.

Actually visiting the dealer could be a bad idea if the source of your Columbus was eBay. If the unit turned out to be reported stolen then you could lose a lot more than just the Columbus. A lot of Columbus headunits are stolen in the EU to be sold on the secondhand market, the security is easily bypassed and a new code set using readily available tools.

New fascia too as the two units are different shapes.

New fascia too as the two units are different shapes.

Sorry to sound thick, does this mean the bolero and columbus are different sizes therefore I would need a different fascia to fit in a facelift Octy?

If so, how much would a chrome fascia cost and where would you buy one from?

IIRC the black plastic one is about £6 from the dealer and the silver aluminium one is about £75.

There is a silver plastic one inbetween this.

Have a look on the SuperSkoda website and search this forum because there was a post yesterday in a different thread with links to all three parts.

Facelift trims:

If you go to    http://www.skodaparts.com     and put   Octavia Navigation Trim    into the parts finder, it comes up with quite a list. But facelift ones ain't cheap.

The Columbus (And Amundsen) is a more square unit, where-as Stream and Bolero are wider at the top than they are at the bottom.

As for any coding......

Thanks KB and rainbowfire, just looked and can see they are really expensive!

Yeah, strange, as the pre-FL's are really cheap by comparison. :S :S

KB, Adam, RainbowFire, many thanks for your help and advice. I have finally sourced a 3T0 035 680 A from fellow briskodian colsand on here and am awaiting delivery! I have also had to bite the bullet and pay the £60 for the trim!

KB, many thanks for your offer of help with coding, I will PM you shortly! I already have you listed as a friend after I bought your boot net last year!

My 1T0035680P was delivered yesterday, quick install, quick bit of coding (BAP off etc) and rock'n'roll. Am loving the re-awakening of the MaxiDot and MFSW :) :)
