insurance query

Featured Replies

Just wondered if anyone had experience in this issue.

Basically im a care worker that works 6days on, 2days off. My car when at work sits on my clients drive while I drive his mobility car all week. was basically wondering if there is a way to have my insurance there as that is where my car is most of the year. Overnight and daytime. So its a bit of a weird one as obviously thats not where I officially live. I dont think I could do but you never know if you dont ask??

It is actually important that you do tell the Insurance Broker or Underwriter the actual Circumstances.

So Registered Keeper,  Address,  Place of Main Residence,

Employment, Place the Vehicle mostly is parked, Used to Commute, parked Day Time, Night Time. Over Night, Secure Parking, College. on street, off street etc etc.

It can effect the Policy in good and bad ways as to price, but if you tell them, then you are well covered.

What is the worst that can happen, hopefully the best is a reduction in Policy cost.

george

PS.

Be sure they know you are one of the Named Drivers on the Motability car Insurance as a Carer.

& so you use another vehicle, but do not have personal use of it.

Well thats what I am hoping for as a extra bonus. As my client lives in a very nice area. Where as my address falls under the postcode of a 'not so nice' area of Blackpool.

But thats what I was getting at, although I live in my postal address, I spend most of my time at another address. Will write off all online quotes as I think they are not suited to my circumstances. Like I said I drive to work (4miles) my car stays still for 6days and is driven home. Then is driven usually the 2days im off then the same starts again. I also use his mobility car while im there.

Thanks George as usual. Hoping one of the site sponsers see this.

The mobility car situation is a strange one. Im not actually listed on insurance, but any carer of 25 veing paid by my company is entitled to drive it. But yes I will tell them that.

Thanks

I used to do that at one point. Car insured with home address, but told them its kept at my work address, as I rented a flat next to work where I stayed monday-friday to save me commuting. No problem at all, but it did need a phone call.

Brilliant thankyou. Will all insurance companies do this?

Some policies actually use terms such as 'where it usually parked overnight'. The important thing is to tell your insurer and let them decide. Failing to do so can have dire consequences. A former colleage of mine, had all sorts of problems when his car was stolen from his Gran's house which was literally just across the road from his parents' house where he lived.

Yeah that was my basis for the question. Majority of the time overnight its at my work address.

Would it not make more sense to find another way of getting the 4 miles to work and then the same to get home rather than using your car?

Sorry for the delay on this - I've been on holiday.

As has been mentioned, the key question in the insurer's mind is 'What is the address where the vehicle is parked overnight?' You'll need to state the client's address if that's where it is mostly kept.
