Greasy Mark on Seat - Any Ideas Please?

Featured Replies

My daughter bought a very nice car air freshener in the USA from a shop called "Bath and Body Works".   Unfortunately, on a hot day, the polythene blister burst and the greasy fluid leaked all over the driver's seat, leaving a nasty stain on the light coloured fabric.

I have used Autoglym's Upholstery cleaner and Vax Carpet and Upholstery Shampoo (using a wet and dry vacuum cleaner - "Henry") without success.   I emailed Bath and Body Works to ask what exactly the ingredients are, or more specifically, what the main gloop is that the scent is suspended in, but all I have had in reply has been standard customer service emails which, beyond saying sorry, don't tell me much.

Can anyone help at all, please?

I read this as there's a bloke called Mark who has a personal hygiene issue on top of an Ibiza or similar from a Spanish car manufacturer.

Can't help with the original question but if you ever do find yourself in the situation I thought you were in, I might be able to help. :)

edit : I once removed a bloke called No Neck Simon from the boot of a Chevette - true story.

My sister in Germany swears by Gall Soap for getting grease marks from clothes. Seems to work well.

The gall bladder is where the body produces the stuff which deals with fat in the body. Not for Vegetarians.

Euro supermarkets all seem to have an aisle for stuff which is too dangerous for us to cope with. One I use often has drycleaning fluid.

Ethanol/methanol? These can/could be got from truck places - they were used in the cold start device. Would Easy start work?

The mother of an old biker chum was a fabric conservator for museums. She said the trick is to apply the chosen gunk, then immediately blot it off. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat. Always using a clean pad to absorb the mark. On, Press, Off. Never swirl it about as that just spreads it around, working it into the weave of the fabric.

I have been told that lighter fluid works a treat to remove grease stains from clothes.

Test in an inconspicuous area first though I'd say.
