top strut mount for mk1 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I dont think i have tue correct strut mount as assembl8ng my front shocks i cant get it to stay on? It says in yhe instructions to add bearing then add strut moubt the tighten with strut nut but the holw on the mount is to bi and just comes off the nut?

Well, which ones did you get?

I remember reading that one option of top mount wasn't held by the inner nut for some reason, but I can't remember which thread or which option... try searching for 'top mount' or 'coilover' and see if it comes up. My powerflex bushes were held in place by the inner nut, but i'm not sure about the LCR, 10mm drop polybushes or the OEM bush. The OEM might have a spacer that shouldn't be re-used on a coilover according to this guide http://www.noahlh.com/car/coilover_howto/ , not sure if that could be the reason?

The standard top mount has a little lip that the nut holds onto but it is possible to pull it off. The red polybush ones just sit on top. I think the powerflex ones do too. It really doesnt matter though as when the shock is in the turret then your top plate is on it cant go anywhere.

All good. One side done but got rained off when i was about to install the coilover on drivers side. Wish i had brought spring compressors, woukd have been alot easier. Lucky i had hundreds of cable ties lol. Reqrs tomorrow, i hope they are easier

All std OEM Top mounts for LCR, VRS, TT etc are basically the same in that they all fit over bearing and have little lips and the inner nut will hold the mount to bearing when tightened up.

No Spacer fitted to these cars only the Golf

correct.

The poly bush and most after market poly ones just sit over bearing and inner nut does not hold mount in place.

Does not really need to as when installed in turret it ain't going anywhere like you say...

Got it all done but now i have a ticking noise from drivers side wheel when turning right, reckon i have damaged the cv joint?

I could be the trouble is if you still have std vrs hubs/wishbones etc your driveshafts will be pointing skywards now you've lowered your car so could have be the last straw for semi worn out joints
