Tail gate lock problems

Featured Replies

2009, 2.0 TDi SE, 44,500 miles.

I discovered today my Yeti's tailgate won't unlock. After unlocking with the remote, it will move a few millimetres, but no more.

As I can't hear the lock mechanism's usual clunks when unlocking/locking, I assume there's probably an electrical problem. Any thoughts on this, please, and any solutions?

Also, can someone please tell me  if there's an emergency release for the tail gate, and if so, where?

I've owned this car since last December, and this is its first problem.

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Hi MartDude,

If you have an owner's manual, check under 'boot lid' on page 33 of mine.

Or look at the manual on-line.

It won't solve your problem but at least you can open the tail gate.

I'm having a similar problem, but I've found the fault is a low car battery. As soon as the car is running it is perfect.

I had the same problem, it would not lock or open, I found it only moved a few mm, so I looked at the tailgate again, I thought I had closed it correctly, so I gave it a hefty push and it locked, problem

solved, so if it happens again I know what to do next time, I must make sure I push the Tailgate shut.

Forgetting my manners - thanks for the replies.

Found the relevant page in the manual, twiddled with the catch as per instructions, and all's fine.

Wife has this problem when sometimes opening the tailgate but I don’t

Try cleaning all round the rubber tailgate seal and the opening that the seal touches then spray the rubber seal with silicone lubricant

Dealer told me to check that "Tailgate was proberly closed" , and to to check HUD display to ensure the all were closed before driveing off.

Also to use Unlock button in Centre console, If you happen to drive off with partly opened doors, that are partly closed and,  that are not locked.

I had this "problem" as soon as I got my FL model, it wasn't apparent with the previous model. It seems that if you allow the tailgate to "bounce" it does this. It needs a firm touch and a good talking to. :D
