sky - fault 10

Featured Replies

FAILED recordings... I can pause live tv so I doubt its the HD... Im out of warrenty, so would it be cynical of me to suggest (as it happened after my last software update) that sky has programmed my box to do this deliberatly? there is no pattern, its random.

any help appreciated, thanks.

1. Phone sky, say you need to cancel because your box has become unreliable and you don't think it's reasonable for you to pay for a new one,

2. Profit.

indeed, after being told this by a sky engineer once, when I moved house and they tried to charge me, I simply phoned the cancelation dept. and cancelled, only to be rung back and told I could have it all free.....

this will happen tomorow if I cant fix it by then......

had this with my BT Vision box. Dunno if I told you the other week (I told Gilly) that I had both SCART and HDMI connected to the telly. I unplugged the SCART and my recordings worked again.

only HDI and outside ariel (terrestrial digital) attached , nothing had changed, and has worked for years .....

Have you tried Google, there are whole threads devoted to SKY HD box faults and how to "fix" them without opening them.

Could it be the weather? I've had some issues with recordings due to the weather.

Also, the single biggest point of failure in STBs is the HDD. Could you have a HDD thats on the way out? Is your sky box in a cabinet where it could be overheating?

we lost signal on certain channels for a while last night even though outside wasnt too bad

if i remember correctly, one of the so called fix's is to remove the power for 2 mins, plug back in but leave box on standby for a minute and then switch on as normal

its worked for me in the past

if it is fubard then be prepared for them to tell you its £69 odd for an engineers visit, i just told them i live in a fully freeviewed area and cancel it, saying

i pay you for a service and if your equipment cant provide me this service then ill just use freeview, hardly watch anything on sky anyways

usually works a treat :)

Which box? Could be the psu on the way out.

Open in up and check for domed caps.

HD is fine... it pauses live recordings , and records downloaded stuff...

I'll keep that in mind if it happens again soon..... I suppose HD boxes are not that expensive on fleabay....

'Turn it off and on again' worked

If it is the psu it'll start again soon enough.

Depending on the model they're £15-25 and your duff one will be worth about £10-15.

a duff psu is worth money??

Yup someone will just replace the faulty caps

Powering the box down entirely and unplugging it usually resolves any recording issues, if that doesn't sort it there's a service menu option called a planner rebuild or similar (you need to go into the 'secret' service menu but the details are easy to find) which should resolve recording issues without losing any data.  I've only needed to do this once when the Sky box wouldn't download anything, the planner rebuild resolved the issue without any data loss.

Our second one in young cubs room, doesn't produce any sound on HD channels, but does if he records a programme.

The main one doesn't get used for that purpose, as the tv doesn't support HD
