Power loss on 110 TDI ASV (Not the usual Vane Issue!)

Featured Replies

Good Evening All,

the car back it

Our trusted Octavia Combi recently passed the 300'000 mile mark and to treat it we had a new turbo installed and the vacuum lines replaced as we had been suffering power loss in recent times.

But low and behold after all was done still no improvement in power!

We have tried everything,

Switched solonoids, Air flow, MAF etc with another octavia that is running fine.

Ran VAG com, no faults.

Disconnected EGR.

One suspicion I have is Injection Pump timing. The reason I suspect this is the following,

At 280k I had the head skimmed, gasket, head bolts & Cam Belt replaced.

After getting the car back it was just never the same. I said this to my mechanic at the time and he ran VAG com live as we drove and showed me that all graphs were where they should be and put the power loss down to a tired turbo. I had my suspicions and have stopped dealing with him since.

Could I be right on my suspicions or am I missing something obvious? Car starts extremely easy and it doesn't suffer a hot start problem.

At this stage I'm mystified and very down that after €500 and a lot of evenings my wife is still in the slow lane on her daily commute!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Colin...

If I had to guess, I would say the timing is not set correctly. Do you get any fault codes?

I also think the timing is out.

Also worth looking at then injectors and replacing or having these sonically cleaned if you have not before as the spray pattern can go all over the place.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I hope to get the timing checked / set over the weekend & I will let you know the results.

As for fault codes I'm afraid I got nothing, would wrong timing set up trigger a fault code?

Colin.
