Hi, can ayone tell me if its a straight forward job to flatten the headlamp beams on a pre fl vrs with zenon lights. Have done a search and it all gets a little confusing with halogen, zenon, facelift, pre facelift plus some links have now ceased to exist. I am off to france for 3 days at the end of the week and would like to flatten the beams if its a simple job.

Do you have Maxidot?

 

 

 

If so it can be done in one of the menu's.

 

If not then you need to manually slide a lever on the back of each headlight.

 

This is for the facelift, but the procedure for your pre-FL is all but identical...

 

Undo nylon securing nut on back of light cluster under bonnet...



Push small black square tab and pull hook on side of light cluster to unlock and release unit forward...



(Light cluster released)...



Remove main larger rubber cap (can be all done without unplugging)...




Now the two metal levers are visible they appear to be on a bezel and moving one also moves the other simply move to opposite position...




Reassemble in reverse order and job done.

Final result...

Where in the Maxidot menu can this be done?  I'm off to Europe in a couple of weeks and it would be handy to do this on my FL with maxidot, but can't see it in the menu anywhere?

You need Maxidot and xenon headlights.

My pre-fl ('07) doesn't have the MaxiDot option to flatten the HID beams. I was told it's not a feature on the pre's.

Very quick and easy.  I do it when waiting in the queue to board the ferry to France and again on the return trip.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately i dont have maxidot although in this case it dosent sound like it would have made any difference. Think i will have a practice run before i go.

I'm not sure what year tourist mode in maxidot was introduced for Xenons (post FL?) as in my 2006 L&K with factory Xenons, there is no option for putting the Xenons in  tourist mode. It's the lever method for me too.  

And me on my 2008 plate, think it is FL only.

 I just keep a couple of the small stick-on circular beam blockers on all the time - never notice the lack of the left-hand kick-up in the UK, which IMHO was too extreme anyway. The stick-ons have been there for 5 years and happily gone through many car washes - they're probably welded on by now!
