engaging 2nd from 1st gear in my vrs

Featured Replies

Hello all, advise please,I have had my octavia remapped and unfortunately had to replace the clutch after 10k, it now has a stage 2 clutch no issues, however now in the past week or so on a couple of occasions I'm having trouble changing from 1st to 2nd gear when pulling away at very slow speed, any ideas?

Time to take it back to the guy who fitted the stage 2 clutch.

Something must be amiss...

I've spoken to gnj motorsport where I purchased the clutch, he said it sounds like the synchromesh in the gearbox

It's a very common problem in VAG manual gearboxes.

If you're lucky a gear oil change will fix it.

How many miles has it done?

37k

That's quite low mileage for gearbox problems. You usually find it's nearer 100k miles.

So it's either:

Contaminated/mucky oil - change it (if you're lucky)

Selector fork is loose inside the gearbox (easy to fix but requires gearbox to be removed and stripped down)

Synchro :( (probably requiring a gearbox rebuild or partial rebuild)

It could also be some wear on the bearings as this is quite common too

So your options are to try your luck with a gear oil change and see how that goes or just go straight in and pay for the gearbox to be opened up to find the cause of it.
