Removing wheel centre caps

Featured Replies

In the process of fitting new wheel centre caps to my superb estate. Just a quick question do you have to remove the wheel to get the centre caps out or is it possible to do it with the wheel still on the car?

Thanks

Better to take the wheel off.

There's nothing to lever them with from the front, so wheel off and a tap of a brush handle or similar will do the trick.

As i did not want to keep the old wheel centre caps I drilled a hole in them insitu and then pulled them out with a bit of stiff wire coat hanger

Cheers guys used the drilling method and now have 4 facelift style centre caps and front/ rear badges.

Did you buy from the dealers or are they ebay jobs?

Got them from the dealers not the cheapest but I knew they were right!

Could you attach a rubber sucker to them and pull them out without having to drill?

I would say probably not as they way the centre caps fit in and lock in place it would need a bit of force to pull it out. I drilled a hole in mine and it took a bit of a pull with some long nosed pliers.

I used a slightly different technique to remove mine. It does destroy the old badges still.....

Firstly put some masking tape around the inner edge of the alloy where the centre cap is located.

Then using a small electrical screwdriver i prised up the metal top disc part of the centrecap so it came away from the main plastic body of the centre cap.

Then using some long nosed pliers i just grabbed the plastic part of the centre cap and pulled it out from the wheel.

Remove the masking tape from the alloy and pop the new centre cap in place.

Cheers

Dave.
