The problem was the system was abused and it would be too difficult to determine whether an individual was going to abuse just because they said they wouldn't.

I think my sons employer would vouch for my sons exemplary safety  and top class responsibility record... (shaming may other drivers twice his age.)....and safe driving award last year in his first year employed by this massive International company, but that seemingly counts for nothing,  but hey as i said, YOU lot make the blanket no flexibility rules, and us mere sheep have no option but to abide by them.

Actually we're brokers so we don't set any of the rules, we just have to pass them on to customers and get shot as the messengers ;)

I can understand insurance companies being careful, the amount of fraud about and **** taking is massive. If I was them and I was covering someone who's young on a £750 policy I'd certainly be thinking twice about then allowing them to go and drive anything they fancied. The problem for insurance companies is that they dont know us as drivers, they just know our details on paper, I know some bloody awful drivers who have clean licences and no accidents but they are a danger on the roads. On the flip side I know some drivers who are great, safe drivers but have been caught doing 80 in a 70 a few times and have had a few non fault bumps. In the real world the latter would be a safer bet but on paper, which is all the companies covering them can use to risk asses them the first one is safer.

I can also see both sides of the coin, when I was 19 I'd been driving a bus for a year, no accidents etc and I moved house. Would anyone hire me a van? Would they feck, cant cover me on the insurance. In the end I found a small local company who took pity on me, managed to cover me but I had to put down a £1000 deposit.

Insurance companies are a business at the end of the day and times have changed since even when I passed 8 years ago, they need to cover themselves as much as possible. They'll always have it tough doing that and winning friends.

I can see the problem.

Im insured on a 70hp fabia for £600 (or something like that) at the moment and if i was to get third party cover on other vehicles then upgrade that to fully comp for an extra £25 id be sorted.

But then. Iv got a mate with a nissan GTR. As we all know, theyre an awesome machine and id be covered to drive that fully comp.

Now then. Imagine the expense i could cause with 550hp if i lost control. Be a hell of a lot bigger risk than my fabia!

On the other hand though. My bike policy is only £300 for a 110hp motorbike, fully comp. power to weight wise, thats extremely crashable in the wrong hands haha.

The £25 extra cost for Fully Comp on the cover to drive others vehicles is Capped at paying out on the vehicle up to the value of £20,000 i believe,

and the other points are mentioned about why you might require to drive temporarily someone elses car they insured.

(Maybe dan@adrianflux can confirm that.)

The Registered Keeper or Owner Insuring their car knows about the Excess that will apply, and the Driver borrowing should know about their Excess and

T&C's.

Third Part or Fully Comp really is not opening up a whole new world of Driving Performance cars when under 29, or 25 or whatever,

well not if you have an accident,

It can open up a whole world of Financial Pain.

Oh. Thats spoilt that then hsha.

He has offered me a drive anyway, but i havent the stupidity to do it haha.

I know that, but don't you lot relay what customers feelings and suggestions are, or won't they listen with interest to you either?

Just do what they fancy n charge what they fancy really don they.

If all the companies do that, theres nothing a customer can do other than pay up

Its all based on statistics and statistically, young drivers are a lot more of a risk...

Before its said, I am not for one minute saying EVERY young driver is going to crash because that would be stupid.
