So im about to finally buyself some alloys

Featured Replies

After a bit of mooching about and some help from people on here ive decided im going to take the plunge and buy myself a set of alloys, once again though being mr. indecisive i am stuck as to whether to stick with 15 inches that my car comes with as standard or to uprate the size to something bigger, perhaps some 17's. only problem being i would obviously then need to get lower profile tyres to compensate for the difference as not to affect my speedo.

Currently i am sporting some 15" steel wheels with some 195/55/15 tyres, if i was to look into getting some 17" alloys would anyone be able to give me an idea as to what size tyres i would need? ive googled one of the online calculators but am still none the wiser  .

thanks for reading this.

The inside of your fuel flap should tell you what sizes are approved for your car. At a guess, I would say 205/40R17.

The ride will be harsher and the tyres a lot more expensive though.

The size of the wheel would be (i think):

7.0J x 17 ET41 with a stud pattern of 5 x 100.

The tyres would be:

205/40 r17

Yeah, itll transform the car though :).

I think it was 'The Plumber' that posted this great link in another thread the other day, you might find it useful :-)

There were comments on other threads about the extra cost of tyres for 16" or 17" rims, and being more expensive than for 15".

You can get perfectly good 205 tyres or 215/40 R 17 tyres for £50-£70 a corner.
