Ridiculously rubbish headlights on VRS

Featured Replies

I have had my VRS a month now and knocked up 2000 miles in it.  Love everything, still finding grey things everyday, such as today found the boot is perfect for sitting on when changing your golf shoes.  Or the other day the parking ticket holder.

However the one thing that is becoming a nightmare are the lights.  The headlights to be specific.  I find the ligthts at night are awful and seem to have a very low cut off on them.  I've already updated the headlights to night breaker unlimited which has made the light brighter but still this cut off is meaning night driving is in my opinion dangerous.

I have tried my brother and is seems the same ( both have the black headlights.

So does anybody have any tips of how to impove them,  I am considering Xenon upgrade but as i think the lens is causing this issue so worried this would not solve the problem.

So has anybody cured this issue

Which vRS?  What year?

Theres many threads on here about how badly adjusted the blackpack headlights can come from the factory.

I think the best thing to do is go somewhere where they can test and set the headlight beam level. (MOT station maybe)

From what iv read (iv got the silver pack lights on mine so dont have this problem) the headlights perform far better once theyve had the level adjusted up. (You only need an Allen key to adjust)

I know mine isn't a Fabia but I took mine back to the dealer for the same thing. The headlight beams were set too low and are now correct. What a difference it's made. I can see where I'm going now :)

Also using Nightbreakers [emoji106]

Yeah thats the general problem. Just adjust far too low.

Night breakers or extreme vision bulbs are good. HIDs (depending on lens type) are the only further improvement IMO.

I've done the leveling and upgraded to a full HID conversion. The difference is unbelievable, but still not as good as some of my previous cars, the best was my Megane with full hid conversion.

The conversion is really easy and imo the black pack lights need both tweaks, leveling and conversion. If I could get non black pack projector lenses at a reasonable cost and simple swap I would do it in a heartbeat.

Had the same problem. Just change the bulbs to osrams or similar and adjust the height a few turns. Job done!

Hi Ant,

Totally agree with you and many have found the same. The first time I took my vRS down dark country lanes I too found the dip beam dangerous. The fix is to fit Osram Nightbreakers or Philips Xtreme and to wind the beam adjustment up by one or two turns (best done against a garage door so you can determine the amount of movement of each light). I have owned my vRS for 3 years now and love it despite the niggles. The car has just past its first MOT.

Totally agree I was very unimpressed with the headlights after my last 2 cars had zennons and were excellent lexus, maxda, I have tried the osram bulbs and slightly better but still not the best but hard to complain when everything else is excellent. Just leave the night driving to taxis, boy racers and vampires job done.

If still on doubt, look into getting HIDs fitted ;)

Spot on, i will be doing this.  I love the car like no other car i have had and i have had some amazing cars 3 times the value of the Fabia, but its such a good all rounder, but as i live near country roads the lights are imperative to me.  I'll report back once i've adjusted the lights up a bit

Ok, so stupid question alert, but in terms of adjusting the lights, I presume you're not talking about the little switch thing you can move up and down on the lower right hand side of the steering wheel?

Somewhere under the bonnet you can play with them?

Yep theres a allen screw on top of the head lights, either line it up on a garage door and give it tweek or take it mot station. Skoda main dealer adjusted mine (incorrectly) and they became landing lights for the spaceshuttle so i took it an mot place who correctly adjusted them for a pint.
