I know if you've bought CDs you get a free mp3 version with Amazon.

Does the same work for books you've bought?

I don't think so, they have a partial system called Amazon Matchbook which allows you to buy the Kindle version of a physical book for a reduced rate or free but I don't think it's been released in the UK.

Just curious why amazon do it for music but not books.

Maybe they will but I would guess it takes a long time to get an agreement for that sort of thing across many publishers.

 

Amazon and Apple have already been investigated for price fixing so I don't think there is much cooperation from publishers.

I don't think Amazon were the ones investigated for price fixing, they were against the whole practice and were in conflict with the publishers who did want price fixing and hence got into a lot of trouble with Apple who also wanted to fix pricing.

 

It will be rights issues, it took a while for it to happen with music and digital distribution with books isn't as mature as it is for music.

Apparently so, but just in the States.
