How to you tell if you have Xenons

Featured Replies

Pehaps a silly question, but when i collect my new car tomorrow i have a list of things to check including the extra's.

How do i tell if the Xennon head lights are there. I assume they will look different to standard ones, but how.

Cheers

Lee

Allready covered on a similar Superb thread.

On the Fabia you will have

1. Headlamp washers

2. No manual level adjustment

If you look in the cluster and you see an eye looking at you, that's a clue for xenon. If you just see a bulb, that's a normal lamp :)

The headlamp will look something like this:-

But with a standard W5W sidelight bulb. :D

How did you change the sidelight bulb?

It's a bit fiddly but do-able.

Take off the back cover ( the N/S headlamp will need the ballast box unscrewing off the cover first), locate the side light bulb holder & pull on it. It will be tight, keep pulling & it will come out eventually. DO NOT pull on the wires though!

After changing the bulbs in the Xenons, they now look like this:-

I've been tempted to do this but my shovel-hands have thwarted me so far... plus, I've only just got hold of a set of wide angle LEDs - don't think the ones that only point straight ahead look so good, as they don't really light up the whole lamp. But I've now got some 5 LED wide angle ones with one larger LED that points forwards, and 4 sideways-facing LEDs that are placed at 90 degrees from each other, should light up the whole lamp unit - if they fit...

Also, it's worth noting that if any cars have had xenon lights retro-fitted, they're unlikely to have the washer and balancing sensor. So look out for the little cap on the bumper which shows it has washers :) Of course, you could just look at the option codes in the handbook or sticker in the boot under the carpet ;)

Not that it matters to you lee, you'll have factory fitted xenons
