VRS losing oil and coolant

Featured Replies

My 07 VRS SE is very slowly losing oil and coolant.

After 6 weeks or so i have to put about 1cm of coolant in the tank and when i checked the oil today it virtually had none in it!

There is no power loss, not coolant/oil mix and no warning lights, the car drives fine but appears to be losing both fluids, i have checked for leaks all over the place and cant see anything obvious.

Sometimes i can smell oil in the cabin and around the engine bay when the car stops....

Any ideas?

Head gasket, engine is slowly burning them.

I'm guessing that's not cheap to repair!

Might have to hold off on my mods lol

Make sure you know the levels 100% and keep checking over another few weeks, if it's loosing oil and water the chances are that's what it is.

Other options are turbo on it's way, oil seals worn out inside the turbo and slowly letting oil inside the boost pipes then also burning them of inside the engine.

Could be a few things for water loss, Fabias have a few hidden pesky water leaks!

I assume you've checked for leaks to rule that out?

As for price on a head gasket is budget around £500.

Car had a brand new turbo 10k ago and appears to be running fine, i have checked over the entire engine for signs of leaks and it appears bone dry for oil and coolant.

I'm going to give the car to Ali at Unit18 and let them guys look at it and fingers crossed its nothing major

exactly the same as mine was doing stripped it down and i had 2 cracked pistons no 3 and 4 number 4 being the worst

What's the time period since you knew that the oil was at the correct level? ...and how many miles has it covered in that period? A little bit of oil usage is fine.

As for coolant, again... you're not having to put much in. You could be having head lift. Is it mapped? I noticed after having my hybrid fitted that I lose a tiny bit of coolant over time. I now plan to fit the PD150 head bolts to sort it out when I fit the 2260.

Oil was fine 6 months ago but checked yesterday and it was bone dry, covered about 5-6k miles in in that time.

The car isnt mapped as far as i know, its booked in at Unit18 thursday so im hoping its good news

Another great service from the guys at Unit18

Drove in at 09:10, Ali took one look at the engine and told me it wasn't the head gasket, he said it was probably my radiator.

09:20 the car was in the air and he showed me the radiator was broken and loosing coolant, 09:25 took a step backwards to the rear of the engine and showed me where my oil return pip on the turbo was leaking.

All new bits ordered, car fully repaired and ready for tomorrow, cant argue with that!

Sounds good :)

Hope you are planning to check your oil a bit more often now, once a month would be about right.
