tyre failure

Featured Replies

Just been reading on another forum about people having issue with tyres becoming misshapen, Uniroyal Rainsport 2 being one of the worst. I am now on my 3rd set of 2's less than 3k old and these have gone castlated, all other sets never have.  Has anybody else had recent issues with tyres as it seems at lot of people are reporting issues.  Also any ideas what the cause coulb be??

Thats put me right off uniroyal tyres I was gonna look at some 3's when the contis are shot. I'm presuming your previous sets have gone the same? And have you been returning them to the people who fitted them? Its worrying that. I haven't actually heard of this issue.

Sorry just read about your previous sets. I would try and find your receipt buddy and take the car back to the garage you got them from. 3k isn't good enough. What is the car actually doing? If your getting some juddering you might just have a weight come off. My car was juddering at back and front last week and had all four wheels out of balance due to this. If the fitter hasnt cleaned the wheel properly before sticking the weight on they fly off!

& have you actually had a proper wheel 4 wheel alignment check.  Could be your suspension/bad bushes for example.

I had RS2's and now have RS3's and they are both great. I think RS2's might have been sat around in a warehouse for a bit now so I'd probably avoid.

The car is making a high pitch whine at speed it also changes pitch dependent upon the service, I intend on getting the alignment done when I have time.  This is the first set of tyres that have doen this all other Uniroyals have been brilliant. I have been back to the supplier who contacted the wholesales people who are not interested and will not do anything.  So next time different model of tyre for me.

I think RS2's might have been sat around in a warehouse for a bit now so I'd probably avoid.

All tyres now have the manufacturing date at the end of the make/size/rating etc on the side wall. Look for a 4 digit number like 1314. The first pair is the week number and the second pair is the last two digits of the year.

I will check the manufacture date when back in the UK and see how old they are.  A friend in the trade has told me that he has seen it more often where the rear tyres on cars are starting to lose shape rather than front leading to lots of people bringing in the cars asking for wheel bearing changes.

Thats how my issue started.

Once these tyres are changed but only when worn, I will be able to workout if the gearbox or diff is making a noise.
