Yeti - Which one?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Any help, pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've spent months looking for a car that ticks most of the boxes I've needed, only the yeti has come close (within the budget I have).

At present, at least until the end of this month, I drive an 03 RAV4 GX and to be fair it's been a great car for me.

I go off road quite a bit (not too heavy duty but enough to make your lower regions twitch now and again), and the RAV with BF Goodrich AT's has been more than capable although bottoming out a fair bit.

It has to go because it's costing too much to fix so the replacement is going to be a yeti, but I'm struggling to decide which one.

Any Yeti with 17 inch alloys I can't put all terrain tyres on so would have to change to 16 inch, not a problem as I've checked with Skoda and they tell me that won't be an issue with clearance etc. problem is that it'll eat into my budget so it kind of knocks out the SE models and higher.

I'm wondering that if I go for the S range will it limit the cars off road ability seeing as the BHP is going to be 110 (the RAV is about 108 I think), not too worried about not having the off road button but would definitely look to add the underbody kit (can this be done on a 2010/11 plate S model?)

I guess the real question I'm asking is that if I go for the S spec will my off road capability be really diminished?

Type of off road I generally do is deepish ruts and across very muddy fields to access farmland. I know folks will probably suggest getting a Landy or such and I did own one briefly but quite frankly I'd like something that's not in the garage every 5 minutes and doesn't need my mortgage payment delayed so I can fill it up!

Any advice really welcome, I've got a few weeks to decide and can't settle on a decision as to which one is right.

Have Found over a number years and family advice, If you think you can't do it Don't Try.

Simple answer. no it wont be diminished going down the S route.

Yes you could retro-fit the under-car protection but it will be expensive. You cannot retro-fit the Off-Road Button system.

From experience deep ruts will be the "stopper" but if you can read a route they can be overcome.

Hi again and thanks for those replies, much appreciated.

Great news re the S route as it now gives me a little more wiggle room on choice and will only need to fork out for the geolanders and not swap alloys too. (Wonder why you don't get a choice of rim sizes when buying?)

Re the underbody protection and being expensive, would you have any idea of price range?

I could have it fitted at a later date I guess if it ate into my budget. I've set aside £400 to cover the tyre change, I originally guesstimated about the same amount for the protection, would that be about right?

Hi Chris (I'm from Herefordshire as well).

I've been looking to buy a used Yeti with underbuy protection already fitted (code PKR on the spec sheet in the boot / log book if that helps) and am finding it very difficult.

I've also enquired about retro-fitting it, but have not had an answer because some parts departments don't seem to low what you are taking about let alone be able to find the right parts on their computers.

Have a look at this thread about the codes and this one about retro fitting it. I've tried pricing up parts myself for the retro fit, but it takes quote a time.

Mine will probably be available before too long if it's of any interest. No idea whether age or spec or mileage (41K) will fit, but at long last I'm likely to be ready to place an order for a new-build vehicle in the next few weeks and so time-scale will be time to order plus delivery time.

Prodata: It might be - here's my 'wanted' thread with the spec I'm interested in.

That sort of mileage wouldn't put me off either, I'd like to hear more if you didn't mind.
