rusty oil and dry cap

Featured Replies

Not a medical condition, if it is not mine.

I looked at an Octavia 1.8 petrol 4x4 2003 yesterday.  Its not been moved in a while and only run for a short time over the last few weeks.

Before starting it I check the oil level, I noticed the engine oil was an orange colour like rust.  I started it up and ran it for 2-3 mins along with a couple of revs, all sounded fine, no smoke.  I stopped the engine and took the oil cap off and it was dry I stuck my finger into the top of the engine and there was no oil I could see at all apart from very old gummy stuff.

What do you think it could be??  A lazy oil pump or blocked oil pickup?

Thanks Jon

Just needs warming up properly and a oil change as if it's been left for a while the oil will just be thick as out was there what looks like custard on the lid then it could be head gasket on its way out

I would run away from that car

If its been stood for a while all oil has drained to bottom and as for the rusty look there is always moisture in there and where its been stood the moisture has had its chance to settle and mix with oil. So a good service and you should be good to go but i advise dont drive untill had a good service. And clean the oil pick up when do service as itll be blocked
