Iphone 5S battery - why so rubbish?

Featured Replies

Anyone else having any issues?

Mine has literally dropped nearly 20% in the last half an hour and to top it off the but where the charger goes into is on the verge of dying. (I have purchased new leads and still same issues)

Yesterday I had to charge the phone 4 times on separate occasions, it dropped from 98% literally down to nothing in about 4 hours and that was without hardly any use.

I took out insurance yesterday, need to back the phone up and will pay the £25 excess for a technical issue with the phone which should hopefully get me new / refurbished model!

What apps do you have running, anything using GPS zaps power at a fair rate of knots.

My old 5 can be used two days between charges, and if left will only consume 2% or so an hour, I have WIFI and 4G always enabled, and BT as well.

Double press the home button and close all the apps by swiping upwards towards the top of the screen and see what happens then.

Another general tip is unless you need to use data on the phone, switch to GSM/2G mode and that should save some power.

We've had one or two with battery faults at work. Factory default it, and if it's still going flat get it swapped under warranty.

As above Apple have admitted problems with 5s batteries. There's a link on their website where you can see if your phone is in the batch they say has battery problems. AFAIK they offer a free replacement. :-)

I've noticed my 5 eats more battery in the last few weeks. Not sure if the Apps I use are mor epower hungry after updates?

I do close them down when not in use, also disabled location services and most notification. Email is not on push and I hardly use as a phone. Get about 1 day-1 half days

I know this is an odd thing, have you tried cleaning out the charging port as that sometimes get crammed up with pocket lint/dust/tissue etc.

Apple batteries are only designed to last long enough for Apple to launch a new product; isnt there a new Apple phone due very, very soon???

How else to guarantee a huge queue of people waiting to buy one.

Yeah, in about half an hour!

My 5 developed a problem where it would just cut out from a quarter battery with no notice then say it wanted charging. Apple did a diagnostic over the phone, discovered it was a hardware fault so sent someone to collect it/bring me a new one :)

Yeah, in about half an hour!

Lol at those queuing all day outside Apple stores for a smart watch.

Only another 3 months to wait

To be fair, I'd rather like one... I'm not going to buy one though.

It's only recently it's gone terrible though, such as now currently on 50% after being taken off charge about 5 hours ago with little use apart from a couple of snapchats and few text messages. Driving me mental it will be dead by 1pm carrying a charger everywhere is a pain in the arse haha.

Built in apple release day battery and cpu drain.

Or its psychological

  • 3 weeks later...

Have you updated to the latest iOS 8.2 as the 8 release had a battery drain issue

I have no issue with mine... Will last 2 days sometimes although I dont have much on it..

The drainer for me is Dropbox which sends my pictures off to the "cloud" when connected to Wi-fi
