Is it auto or manual? If manual i would start with the clutch. If auto the fluid is probably in need of some fresh stuff

Seconded. In the case of an auto, note that ZF Transmissions (and if they don't know no-one does) recommend changing transmission fluid (ATF) every 50_000 miles (80_000 km).
