Fabia VRS (potentially getting new one)

Featured Replies

Afternoon guys,

Pretty sure you know what I'm going to ask when talking about the Fabia VRS!

After having a pretty disastrous time with cars over the last few years (currently have a Astra H 1.9 CDTI 150bhp, and had both "common" faults of a dodgy gearbox and a dodgy EGR valve happen), I'm looking at possibly getting a Fabia VRS as a 2nd car.

I've only just picked up on the fact there appears to be a few issues with the engine - working my way through the forum posts right now, but can anyway say if the problems still exist on a "new" car? I've seen posts about 2 different engine codes, and that they have made some upgrades.

Should I be worried?

Cheers,

Marc

Welcome to the forum.

I take it you mean a New Mk2 Fabia vRS

The Cars from June 2010- Late 2012 Have CAVE Engines. there are 2,800 or so in the UK.

About 20 % have had issues and probably replacement engines.

The Revised Engine CTHE came in late 2012.

Some problems with the earliest,  then OK really Mid 2013.   About 1,200 of these in the UK.

The New Fabia is due out,  and the vRS stops production, some good Bargains to be had, Demonstrators or Stock Cars Unregistered in the UK already.

Do not pay anything like near £17,000 - £18,000 for a Hatch.

You can get an under 1000 mile car for under £14,000

Go on spoil yourself and have some great driving fun in the latest spec'd car.

Good deals to be had with limited stocks in the pipe line.

For reassurance get the extended warranty negotiated in the deal.

Far more positives than negatives when buying new now.

Enjoy!!

Checkout Skoda website and used /demo up for sale across the UK ,some good prices to be had and always room for negotiation.

Hi i have a 2013 Fabia VRS,it is awesome. 180 BHP from a 1.4 engine. The gearbox ix great i have become lazy and just stick it in drive. Fuel consumption is really good (yeh i know some people aren't that bothered) normal driving on a run 70'ish easily get 40MPG. I work 12 miles away and travel along duel carriageway and motorway. if i take my time, say 50MPH I have had 50mpg.

It handles like a go-kart, it has the trick differential and the car feels solid and secure. My wife used to have a Suzuki Swift 1.2 of the same year and there is no comparison, hers was skittish in crosswinds and everything was less than inspiring. We got rid of hers kept the Fabia i have just bought a Octavia MK VRS estate.

My advice is buy one, Pound for pound i don't think that there is much that can come close.

Enjoy

Hello I am really tempted to buy a 13 14 plate Fabia vRS but am bricking it re. "the oil issue" Currently run an 11 plate Monte Carlo 1.2 105hp manual and have had no problems at all with the car after 3 years of ownership. It just lacks a bit of pace for me.

Test drove the Fabia vRS yesterday and loved it. Spoke to the salesman reference oil use and he said that the early ones used a bit but that the issue was now resolved on the later cars. I have to say I am still worried / concerned especially after reading the forums.

If anyone has a later car please can you respond with any oil consumption figures.

Thank you in advance.

Tommy.

This is the problem with car forums.

A lot of people come here to post / look for advice with regards to problems they have with their cars. Therefore on the surface of it, they make a particular car look like a problematic one.

Yes they can use oil. Newer ones use a lot less than the early cars, and have around 10 BHP more!

I have one of the early cars, it uses around 1L of oil per 2-3k miles. Its now on 34k miles and has never skipped a beat even with running uprated power with a tuning box fitted.

Great little cars.

Nice one thank you for coming back so quick.

Very reassuring.
