Retrofit SatNav question

Featured Replies

Hi, wonder if you could shed any light on this for me, I've recently bought a Rapid Sport TSI from new after trading in my beloved bright yellow Fabia, and it's fitted with the standard maxi dot radio, I wanted to upgrade with either the Amundsen or Columbus sat nav, what are the differences? Pros and cons? I'm pretty confident with fitting as I've seen a few threads on here on how to go about it.

Any help would be appreciated, I plead ignorance.

My dealer has just fitted an Amundsen HU in my brand new Sport. It's basically a plug and play unit. You will need to get a GPS receiver which are on eBay for around £10 and a Fakra lead which is a split aerial lead which gives you AM channels too (if required but not essential).

The unit will need coding after to give you Navigation in Maxidot display.

I love this unit and the Sat Nav is 100% spot on so far. Very quick and user friendly and a much better sound quality. All touch screen with lots of settings to your preference. You will also need a new dash surround as the Swing unit is different. It's about £8 from a dealer.

I recently fitted a columbus, the difference in prices on ebay between the two wasn't huge, so I opted for the higher spec one.

When I was researching I came across the following pages, which are a little out of date but show the differences reasonably well.

There a different versions (e.g with and without DAB) so check before you buy.
