DEPO Xenon headlights & D2S 6000K HID fitted

Featured Replies

I've had my vRS for about 3 weeks now and have set about making a few upgrades. First on the list was Xenons!

WHAT I BOUGHT

The headlights I bought were the DEPO 'black' Xenon units off eBay, I offered them £200 for the pair delivered. Fantastic quality I have to say: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111195351628?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I then went for a D2S 6000K HID kit, also off eBay for £65. A really nice kit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261379467841?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&var=560279102171&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

FITTING

Skill level – 1/5 spanners. Time – 2 hours max. (for perfectionist monkeys like me)

Old OEM units prior to removal.

I'm afraid I didn't really take any photos during fitting, but it was so easy it really wasn't worth it. I read another post saying you need to remove the front bumper, but you don't! I just loosened it off at the front, put a load of masking tape on it around the lights to ensure I didn't scratch it and was able to manoeuvre the lights in and out.

They're just plug and play really, you'll need to remove the pitch adjustment units from your old headlights carefully and put these into the new units. You also need to take the H7 bulbs and holders from your old units, and use these as your main beams in the new units. I also panicked that the indicators didn't work, but this was due to the bulbs being a poor fit in the DEPO bulb holders, so I ended up using the bulb holders from the old units.

Fit them loosely to start with, and hand tighten initially to check allignment. Close the bonnet, make sure you're happy with the positioning then open it again and tighten them up properly. There's nothing suitable supplied for fitting the ballasts onto the back of the headlights, so I used some strong double-sided foam which worked perfectly.

New units fitted. How did that splitter get there too?!

They've completely transformed the car I have to say, the difference at night is unbelievable. Well worth the money!

Tasty 6000K bulbs. I've also got Cree 501 LED sidelights bulbs, well worth the investment.

Well it says they're the black headlights, but based on that photo they aren't. It's difficult to see on my photos, but the inner edge (closest to the grill) and bottom edge of the light have a black finish, whereas that light looks all chrome. Could be worth checking with them though!

Much better look than the standard lights.

Any idea where I can get a set of these? I'm struggling to find a set of black ones for £200.

They do seem to have gone up in price! One option might be aftermarket projectors. Looks and performance wise, I'm sure they could be fine... Though legally, you might tread on a mine.

Have you rang Wingmirrorman direct? When I came to purchase my set over a year or so ago now they had them in stock, but again at nearly £400 for the pair!

Apparently they order them through a couple of different suppliers, and I had to wait a few weeks for them to come into stock with the cheaper supplier. A bit bonkers you can purchase the identical set of headlights for nearly twice the price!

I've sorted some now thanks, settled with a set of aftermarket projector ones with the drls. Not 100% on them yet but can only try them and see.
