Mk1 Octy vRS mini detail

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Let me start by saying I am by no means a detailer. I wash the car probably once a month or so, 2bm with some standard autoglym wax on top if I have time.

What I do like however is a nice looking car, and reading stuff on here and on DW has made me lust after a nicer finish. I'm hoping this thread will inspire people a little - doesn't need to be expensive to get started.

I did all the below by hand over 4 hours.

Here's what I started with - dull, lots of road grime and bird offerings. Generally looked a little unloved!

Did an initial wash with autoglym car shampoo, 2bm. Then I cracked out the first of my recent purchases:

Didn't do as much as I was maybe expecting but was happy with the results. It's amazing how much a bucket clean doesn't pick up!

Followed this up by cracking out my old favourite:

After which I was left with the following:

Looked quite nice and I was happy with the overall effect but needed to wax still. I've used a lot of autoglym wax in the past, quick, easy and reasonable result. However was after something a bit better. Ended up with a panel pot of this:

I know there are probably better options, or longer wearing ones, but I wanted something easy to work with and giving good results and for the price I paid for the little tester pot I'm more than happy. Plus it smells amazing :D very easy to work with and very nice result, massively better than my usual.

Bit more elbow grease and here is my final result:

And finally, some gratuitous "oh, shiny" pics. Enjoy!

Nice work mate and a good write-up!

Car looks vastly improved - great effort :)

Well done, sounds like you've caught the bug, keep up the good work.

Looking great dude now you've started down the path of car detailing there will be no stopping you.

Well done, the car looks great and those are some good choices on products. I really rate rainforest rub. And who doesn't like poorboys :)
